Pretty mini roses, Fliss had flowers in every room during our stay, she spoiled us!

257bronfadog36600x399.jpg

Again the plaster from the wall in the Dower house. We will figure this out yet. Maybe it is Dr. T's wife's initials?

258bronfadog37600x480.jpg

This is a picture of the beam that runs the length of the kitchen ceiling, earlier you saw that chandelier hanging beside Olive Tighe in the kitchen. Mike Owens says that he and the architect historical person who looked over the house, believe that there is a cut out in the beam because there was a inside staircase going upstairs. That would explain this cut out for the stairs to be attached to the beam. I mentioned to Mike about the Wynnestay in Philadelphia, it had a ladder going to up stairs not a staircase. That may be the case here as there really wasn't room between that beam and the outer wall of the kitchen except for a very steep set of narrow stairs. They would almost seem like a ladder for the climber!

259bronfadog38600x450.jpg

Now we are moving from the Kitchen into the living room. This is the back wall of the house, in the living room. To the right is a door to the kitchen, the window looks out to the back yard of the Bronfadog. Where the pillow is laying is a very nice window seat, you will see me sitting there in a few moments. I believe that Fliss designed this fabric for the drapes for the windows. Notice the thickness of the wall at the window? You may have noticed that all the windows and doors are set in two-foot thick stonewalls. Mike Owens asked if we had ever seen that before? I think I disappointed him because my deceased Mother-in-law's house has two-foot thick walls. She had an awful time keeping the moisture out. In fact they painted every two years the inside of the house with Kilz, then repainted the walls because of the mold from the moisture the house retains.

Mike said that they had the same issue until he spoke to a gentleman that was experienced in these type of stone walls and he said that you needed to remove all the outside plaster or coverings that block the stones from the outside air. Once you did that, then the house could breath and you wouldn't have the moisture problem. He has done so, and he no longer has a moisture problem. Now my Mother-in-laws house was stone but for some reason instead of having the stonework repaired they had plaster and siding put up to cover the outside of the house. I think she thought it was prettier, but in doing that she cause her own mold/moisture problems. I found that to be quite interesting.

This is in the living room of the main house of Bronfadog. You are looking at the fireplace that is of the original structure. The massive size shows how they were able to cook several large kettles or a side of beef if needed in this fireplace. There is a stove sitting where the wood fire would have been. If you look in the far right corner of the fireplace you will see another of Mike's wooden artworks! Seen better if you click on this picture and look at the larger version.

261bronfadog40600x450.jpg

This is a close up view of the wood work of the mantle of the fireplace, you can see where the original wood is still there with a new mantle place above it not to disrupt the original mantle.

262bronfadog41600x450.jpg

This is the beamed ceiling in the living room. Note the little hooks? First I thought coat hooks? nah, curtain hooks to divide the room? nah.. Then I again thought of cooking, and maybe this is where they hung flowers, herbs, food stocks for later use? I don't know when I speak to Mike and Fliss Owens I will ask them.

263bronfadog42600x450.jpg

This is a picture of the other side of the fireplace that you could not see before.

264bronfadog43405x600.jpg

One of Fliss's many art works that are around the house. This one is hung above the sofa on the wall in the living room that is shared with the kitchen

265bronfadog44600x450.jpg

This is the other end of the living room. It is the same wall as the front of the house notice the recessed wall cabinet? And again the door with the iron work locks. This is the door that I said the lock had been replaced as the metal bends. I know this because the night we came back from the Pub, it was quite late and they had gone to bed and we were turning off lights and closing doors and this door caused me to make a bit of noise. Hope I didn't wake them! This door opens into the Front Door [not used] entry way and where the staircase is that goes up stairs.

266bronfadog45600x450.jpg

this is from the other side of that same door. The wood you see behind the computer desk is actually the Front Door which is not used. The desk to the left is the one I bonked into when I came through the night we went to the pub and were trying to be quiet.

267bronfadog46600x399.jpg

This picture is out of sequence, but I am not moving it. It is the coat rack that is in the entry way from the side door/now main door over by the kitchen.

268bronfadog47600x450.jpg

This is a Wooden Bowl that I belive that Mike found on the property. It is inside the den/studio that is on the other side of the entry way from the living room. The two foot thick wall and window face the front yard. This is the room that is at the end next to the Dower house.

269bronfadog48600x399.jpg

This is the den/studio/playroom. It has a second fireplace, from what we understand it is also part of the original main house, not added later. Look at the mantle of that fireplace, neat huh.

270bronfadog49405x600.jpg 271bronfadog50600x399.jpg
272bronfadog51600x399.jpg

Mike Owens taking us for a tour of the room and explaining things in the house. Mike also works in forestry, and that is why he has the sunburned look he is always out in the weather. Which caused those light blue eyes to pop out at cha. Right girls? We all commented on his eyes they were beautiful. Hush guys!

273bronfadog52600x450.jpg

This is Mike standing next to a drawing of himself. I believe that Fliss did this drawing of him. They are both great artists.

274bronfadog53600x399.jpg

This is the window at the end of the room, Betty McGehee, Mary Alice Shaw and Joan Bretz taking the picture. Yup we tried to cover every corner of the place with out cameras.

275bronfadog54600x450.jpg

View out a window, but I think this is a view out the upstairs window from our bedroom.

276bronfadog55600x399.jpg

This is from the fireplace in the den/studio room pointing back towards the entry way at the front door where there is a secondary coat rack at the base of the stairs.

277bronfadog56600x450.jpg

This is a picture from the top of the stairs, looking down at the coat rack, I just spoke of. If you go right you will be in the Den/studio, if you go left there is the computer and living room.

278bronfadog57600x450.jpg

Standing at the top of the stairs still, but turning to the right you see the door that is open, which is the bathroom, with an old fashioned claw legged bath tub it was wonderful. To the left here you see a 2nd door and that is to the bedroom at the end of the house [end closest to the dower house].

279bronfadog58600x450.jpg

This is from down the hallway that runs the back side of the house upstairs. You can see the end of the stair case railing, the bathroom door and the curtain of the window that is in the hallway across from our bedroom. I am still facing the dower house end of the Main house.

280bronfadog59600x450.jpg

Now I have turned and taking a picture out side that window that is to the back of the main house. That is the back yard below that I showed you earlier in the outside shots.

281bronfadog60600x450.jpg

Now I have turned again to my right and you can see down to the other end of the hallway, this is another bedroom. This is the bed room that is above the kitchen. There is a dresser on the right of the hall with plants on it this is right outside our bedroom door.

282bronfadog61600x450.jpg

Now I have turned again and I am facing the front of the main house, and looking into our bedroom, and the front windows of the main house. As you can see I have striped my bed and folded the linens in preparation of leaving this morning to go home. Vi is still sleeping, she didn't know I was out running around at 6:30 am and taking pictures. See the heat register against the wall it is radiator heat upstairs. We were very comfortable.OH OH, See over on the left the corner of the dresser by the radiator? that dresser was laid out with tea service and treats etc. every day replinished for us. Fliss took care of everything you could think of. She even let me use her curling iron because my adapter didn't work with mine, I thought I had blown mine but when I got home it worked fine. Just wouldn't work in the adapter. Fliss was such a dear. When we arrived she had matching wash cloths, hand towels, towels and soaps and treasures laying on our beds. She thought of everything the greatest hostess.

283bronfadog62600x450.jpg

This is a picture out of our window, I couldn't get too close and point the camera down, with out falling because of the two foot walls, so there is some reflection in the glass from my flash. You can see the front gate of the walled front yard down stairs.

284bronfadog63600x450.jpg

Again back to the front door looking into the room. See the beam at the connection between the ceiling and wall, that is from the original joists.

285bronfadog64600x450.jpg

Notice the cove to the right, the room is L shaped to give room for the staircase coming upstairs into the hallway. There is a bed back in that cove with a nightstand.

286bronfadog65600x450.jpg

This picture is from outside the other window by Vi's bed. I am trying not to wake her, as it is 6:30 am on the day of leaving. She doesn't know I am taking these pictures, or is ignoring me, one or the other.

287bronfadog66600x450.jpg

This is the cove pf the L with the bed and nightstand in it. That little bitty bump on the left side of the bed is Vi sleeping. She is going to kill me when she sees these pictures. Vi truly I made sure nothing personal was showing before I took the picture but I wanted to show the cove of the room. =) She is going to kill me for this!!! ha ha

288bronfadog67600x450.jpg

This is from just in the door way of our room heading back towards the stairs and bathroom.

289bronfadog68450x600.jpg

This is Fliss and her best friend, ready and prepared of our tea. It was wonderful!

290bronfadog69450x600.jpg

Picture of the tea table set up.

291bronfadog70405x600.jpg

Fliss and Mike Owens of the Bronfadog the current owners of Dr. Thomas Wynne's house standing in the living room in front of the fireplace. Did you know that this room where they are standing is where Dr. Thomas Wynne held the Quaker Meetings!!
