"What I'm Up To and Searches I'm Conducting"
About to start researching Kentucky and Indiana for Peter Whetstone and possible parentage. Perhaps I will be able to narrow down the field and finally find out whether these are one in the same.
Searching for Hal SINGLETON. 1930 Kaufman Co. Census listing Ruby E. SINGLETON, a sister, and her mother says the girls' father was b. in TX., and not Tennessee. To date, I've been unable to locate him in any census' for Texas. If you have any information, email me please.
NEW: I'm researching our Black Dutch ties which stem from the Wiley side of the family. Growing up, we were always told we were Black Dutch.....and we now know that this doesn't mean we were necessarily from Holland or Germany. What I'm told is that Gr. Grandma Lula WILEY Singleton was Full blood Cherokee Indian.
I'm currently working on locating information for CLEMMONS/SINGLETON/WILEY/and HIGHTOWER. Having done this for some time now, I've gotten used to researching more than one line at a time. The difficulty that I'm having is finding census records for any of them. In going through my fathers BC, I saw that both of his parents were born in Texas.....but where? I'm concentrating on East Texas, and will likely work my way through each county. There are several CLEMMONS' in Kaufman County, but to date, I've been unable to connect them to ours.
I'm also working on gathering information on Peter Whetstone's activities during the Texas Revolution. We know that he was not a participator at The Alamo, but in nearby Bexar. I will soon report on information that I have on Peter. It's the whole "organization" thing. I want to make sure that what I relay to you all is accurate.....or as accurate as can be.
One thing that I wonder about often is our origins. Whetstone is a derivitive of the name "Wetzstein", as well as others. A possibility is that this line came from Sweden, Holland, or maybe Germany....though I'm fairly confident it was Holland. A brickwall has formed passed Peter since we really aren't sure of WHO his parents were or WHERE he was born. According to previous research done by others, I find that Peter wasn't a talkative man. In fact, he didn't ever say WHERE he was from. The mystery of Peter may very well remain for all time, but I will certainly do my best to find out.
