In 1919, the influenza epidemic swept through East Texas, killing many. Five members of the Blackwood Family fell victim to it in just a matter of a few days. Among them were Josepha "Josephine" (d/o Henry MASON b. abt. 1858 of Honey Grove, TX.) who d. 2 Jan 1919, Infant Son b. and d. 1 Jan 1919, Jessie d. 4 Jan 1919, Hal BLACKWOOD (s/o James and first wife Annie VAUGHN) b. 29 Apr 1900 d. 10 Jan 1919, William BLACKWOOD (s/o James and Annie VAUGHN) b. 1904 d. 1919. All are buried at McCraw's Chapel Cemetery in Fannin County.

Joseph Franklin BLACKWOOD's parents were Jordan Franklin BLACKWOOD and Martha Kemmings. Martha's parents were John KIMMONS and Margaret MORRISON

Jordan's parents were James BLACKWOOD b. abt. 1777 and Martha HAMILTON b. abt. 1777. Both are buried at the Blackwood Family Cemetery in Spartanburg District, S. Carolina.

James' parents were Joseph BLACKWOOD and Margaret EDWARDS. Both are buried in the Blackwood Family Cemetery in Spartanburg.
