     Was a Confederate Officer in the Civil War. The family was proud of him. He lead a charge up a hill. When he turned around he saw that no one was following him. When he turned around to rejoin his troups, his saddle strap broke and he fell off his horse to be captured by the yankees.

     Harriet enjoyed visiting these Arkansas relatives, who she described as being like the Beverly Hillbillies. There were many children to play with, which was fun for Harriet, being an only child.

Leonard's family lived in the woods and had only one neighbor down the road. There wasn't even an outhouse, and they had to go to the bathroom in the woods and bury it. It was not advised to do so at night, though, because of the wolves. fished for crawdads with Leonard when she was 10 years old.
