Oscar Johnston Trout
Published in the Fincastle Herald Found Dead Last Saturday morning (September 13, 1895) the body of Mr. Oscar Johnston (O. J.). Trout was found in a clump of bushes on the farm of Mr. Chas Huff, several miles west of Fincastle. Mr. Trout was working for Mr. Huff, the latter having left the deceased at work in a field at 10 o'clock Friday morning, the day before. Mr. Trout not making an appearance at the usual time, his wife became alarmed. Search was made, which proved ineffectual. The next morning a more thorough search was made, when the lifeless body was found. A coroner's jury was summoned by constable F. W. Jones consisting of E. C. Crush, J. T. Loop, M. A. Woodson, E. L. Austin, N. L. Camper, and G. W. Hamilton, with Dr. T. L. Robertson as examining physician and Mr. A. A. Woodson acting as coroner. It was ascertained that the deceased came to his death from heart disease. Mr. Trout was about 40 years of age (DOB May 23, 1855), and was a son of Mr. Henry Trout, deceased, of Sinking Creek, Craig County and formerly Sheriff of that County. He leaves a wife (Mary Caroline Hutchison Trout) and six children in a helpless and unfortunate condition. It is said that he was a worthy, industrious man. The remains were interred at Haymakertown on Sunday.
