Johnson

This is my maternal Grandfather, William Eugene Johnson's, line.

Thanks to a number of very active Johnson descendents and researchers (Thank you Dawn, Marcia, Gordon, Jan, and Lori and all of your fabulous sources!!!) my earliest traced Johnson ancestor is now Robert Johnson, b. 1752, d. 1785. He married Sarah Green. Children:

He married Sarah Surfling, b. 15 Mar 1801 in Norfolk Co, Eng, (daughter of William Suffling and Unknown (Suffling)) d. 01 May 1889 in Gaines Twp, Orleans Co, NY, buried in Otter Creek Cem, Gaines Twp NY, census 1880 in Michigan with William S. Johnson. They had:

Gordon/Gorden

George W. Gordon m. 1810 Betsy in Maine the family moved to the Grand Rapids area in 1835 (Plainfield Twp, Kent Co, MI). George is likely the son of Amos and Nancy (George) Gordon. Amos was born and married in Hopkinton, Merrimack, NH. George and Betsey had:

Baker

Isaac Baker is the earliest Baker relative I've been able to trace. He was born c.1820 in England according to the Census' and ended up in the community that was to become Laphamville (the orginal name of Rockford) in Kent Co, MI. He m. Harriett Lapham (dau. of Smith and Katherine (Gilbert) Lapham) b. Apr. 1827. They had:

Grove

Amelia M. Grove is really the only Grove that I have sufficient information on but I think that have come up with information on the Grove family beginning with her grandparents.

Her grandfather was Jacob Grove, b. c. 1800 in PA. He married Rachel Dice, b. c. 1802 in PA, (daughter of John Michael Dice and Margaret Besore) d. c. 1852. They had:

  1. David Grove b. abt 1824.
  2. **Solomon Grove b. 10 May 1828.
  3. Mary Grove, b. abt 1832.
  4. Jacob Grove, b. abt 1833 in PA, d. 09 Jan 1894 in Will Co, IL, buried Jan 1894 in Providence Ridge Cemetery, Will Co, IL.
  5. Rachel Grove, b. abt 1836 in OH. m. Henry Spangler. Family also moved to Will Co, IL.
  6. Ephraim Grove, b. abt 1839 in OH.
  7. Hannah Grove, b. abt 1854 in OH.
Solomon Grove, b. 10 May 1828 in OH or PA, d. 27 Feb 1898 in Will Co, Illinois, buried Feb 1898 in Providence Ridge Cemetery, Will Co, IL. He married Katherine Long, around 1850, b. 04 Nov 1828 in OH?, d. 04 Feb 1912, Jackson, IL, buried Feb 1912 in Providence Ridge Cemetery, Will Co, IL. The family moved to Will Co, IL some time after 1850 and before 1859. Only Amelia was born in OH. They had:
  1. Amelia M. Grove b. 28 Oct 1854.
  2. Willis Alden Grove, b. 28 May 1859 in Illinois, d. 04 Mar 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. (I suspect he married a woman from Rockford, MI)
  3. Frank Grove, d. aft Jun 1920.
  4. Clara J. Grove, b. abt 1862 in Illinois, d. aft Jun 1920.
  5. Avery M. Grove, b. abt 1865 in Illinois, d. 01 Jul 1931 in Illinois, buried Jun 1931 in Providence Ridge Cemetery, Will Co, IL. He married Laura Relf, b. 1861 - 1864 in Illinois, (daughter of Unknown Relf and Unknown (Relf)) d. 1920, buried 1920 in Providence Ridge Cemetery, Will Co, IL.
