Will of William Trotter
of Charles Parish York Co., Va
Dated 16 October, 1733
"I William Trotter of Charles Parish in York County for divers good reasons and considerations hereunto moving do constitute and appoint this to be my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth, Vix:
Item I lend unto my well beloved wife Ann for her support and maintenance five negroes, to-wit, Nemo, Judy, Frand, Dinah and Sary during her natural life and my large Copper still and after her decease the still to remain on the plantation or elsewhere to my son John Trotter or his law-ful heirs of his body and likewise the two negroes Nemo and Judy return to my son John or his heirs.
Item I give unto my dutiful son Armiger Trotter one negroman named Will.
Item I give unto my dutiful son Thomas Trotter one negroman named Mingo.
Item I give unto my dutiful daughter Elizabeth Trotter one negro man named James.
Item I give unto my dutiful daughter Mary Trotter one negro boy named Daniel.
Item I give unto my granddaughter Dorothy Trotter, daughter of my son William Trotter, decd. five if demanded meaning five shillings Virginia currency and that she is to have no more of my estate whatsoever.
Item I give unto my granddaughter Gueliemay Newby ten pounds to be paid by my executors as shall be hereafter mentioned.
Item I give unto my dutiful daughter Ann Jordan, Wife of Edward Jordan, one negrowoman named Sarah and her future increases.
Item if my negro Judy should bear a child I give the same to my little grandson Thomas Trotter, son of John Trotter.
Item I lend unto my loving wife a third of my estate when my debts and legacies are first paid during her life for her support and after her decease that with three negroes, to-wit: Frank, Dinah and Sary to return and be equally divided among my children or their heirs as shall be hereafter named, to-wit: John, Armiger, Thomas Elizabeth, mary Trotters and Ann Jordan.
Item I devise that two thirds of my estate after my debts and legacies are justly paid my be equally divided between my children Armiger, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann Jordan the said Ann Jordan to be accountable for what she has already received.
I constitute and appoint my loving wife and my sons Armiger and Thomas my lawfull executrix and executors of this my last will and testament and devise that the court may take no further regard of this my estate then only to grant a probate of this my will, as witness my hand and seal this 16th day of October, 1733.
