Deed for Thomas Trotter of York County, Virginia

"Your County, Virginia, November 3, 1634.
Presents Capt. John Wolf ) Capt. John? ) Capt. Nicholas Machein )
Whereas: Thomas Trotter was seated and planted upon a parcel of land fifty acres ......................................................
John Wayne by these presents give and grant unto this said Thomas Trotter Fifty Pounds to hold the said fifty acres unto himself, Thomas Trotter, and assigns forever and the said Thomas Trotter covenats and agrees in consideration thereof to make, order and corfirm by good assurances under the law unto the said John Wayne..................
In Witness, whereof, the said Thomas Trotter and John Wayne hereto set their hand and seal this fourth day of Sept Anne Dommini 1633"
Almost ten years later, we again find this same Thomas Trotter's name in the old records. This time he receives a grant of 500 acres of land from the offices of the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia for bringing ten persons into the colony. A copy of this deed follows:
"OFFICE OF SECRETARY OF THE COMMONWEALTY OF VIRGINIA"
"To all &c. Whereas &c. NOW KNOW Yee that I the said Sr. William Berkeley Kt. doe wit the consent of the Councell of State accordingly give and graunt unto Thomas Trotter five hundred acres of Land beginning at a small gutt or Creeke on the North side Pyanketanke river and running into the woods twoe hundred and eightie pole North East and from thence North west three hundred and ninetye pole thence downe parallell to the river unto the marked trees where it begann. The said Land being due unto him by and for the transportation of tenn psons into this Colony whose names are in the records under this pattent.. To have and to hold &c. to be held &c. Yielding and paying unto our said Soveraigne Lord the King his heirs and Successors for every fiftie acres of land herein graunted. yearly at the feast of St. Michaell the Archell. the fee rent of one shilling to his Majties. use which payment is to be made seven yeares after the entry of his Claime being the fowerteenth of July one Thousand six hundred fortie twoe and not before according &c. dated the tenth day of August 1642."
