Will of James Trotter , Sr. Brunswick County, Va. Clecks Office Order Book 2. Page 482

In the name of God, Amen. I, James Trotter. Sen'f, of the County of Brunswick, being in perfect senses and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows viz-- Imprimis: I do give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Mason Hardaway, one negro boy named Abner to her and her heirs forever, but if she, my granddaughter, should die without heir lawfully begotte, my will and desire is that said negro be sold and the money be divided between her three sisters and brothers, Ann Hardaway, Elizabeth Hardaway, Francis Hardaway, and Washington Hardaway, to them and their heirs forever. Item: I do give to each of my grandchildren, and the money be divided between here three sisters manely, Ann Hardaway, Elizabeth Hardaway, Francis Hardaway and Washington Hardaway, twenty-five current money pieces, to them and their heirs forever. Now my will and desire is that if either these my grandchildren should die without issue lawfully begotten, that their legacies above given shall be equally divided between the survivors of these my grandchildren. Item: I do give and bequeath all the remainder of my estate both real and personal together with all my stock and household furniture of all kinds to my five sons, namely, James trotter, Robert Trotter, George Trotter, Isham trotter, and William Trotter, to them and their heirs forever to be equally divided between them. Item: I make and ordain, constitute and oppoint my two sons, Isham and George Trotter, executors of this my last will and testament, uttely revoking and disannulling all other wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this month day of August, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two.

This will was approved by the oath of William Crooke and Matthew Jones, witnesses there to and ordered to be recorded. And upon the motion of George Trotter and Isham Trotter, the executors therein appointted, and they having given bond with security, and taken the oath according to law, Certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
