Zachariah Barnes was born about 1822 in Ohio. His wife, Nancy WHEATON, was born about 1829 in Pennsylvania, the
daughter of William and Mary Wheaton.
Zachariah and Nancy were married January 1, 1846 in Monroe
or Belmont County, OH
and moved to Richland Co, Wisconsin
in the mid-1850s.
Zachariah enlisted as a
private with Company H, 11th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment on March 17,
1862. He died of disease on a hospital
boat on the Mississippi River south of Cairo,
Illinois on October 2, 1862.
On October 8, 1876, Nancy married Benjamin
Franklin Cox, son of James and Matilda Cox, and they continued to live in
Richland Co, WI.

in Ohio; died July 23, 1914 in Ladysmith, Rusk County, Wisconsin. She
married (1) Wellington NOBLE February 20, 1865 in Richland Co, WI. She married (2) James Merriman WHEELER February 16, 1869 in Richland Co, WI, son of John
Wheeler
and Rachel King. Merriman was born
September 11, 1838 in Franklin, Monroe Co, Ohio, and died in
1878. Campsodell married (3) Alfred
PROUTY July 16, 1882 in Sylvan, Richland Co, WI, son of Adam Prouty and Harriet Foster. Alfred was born February 20, 1844 in Schoolcraft, MI.
