Family tradition has it that "Capt. Sam" and his family of five sons and two daughters moved from Redrutb, Cornwall, England to Port Whitby near Toronto, Canada about 1835. "Capt, Sam" came from a family with seven sons who scattered all over the world. When "Capt. Sam" moved to Redruth a cousin of his remained in Wendron, Cornwall, this was the rich branch of the family. "Capt. Sam" was a mine captain in Cornwall and a blacksmith. When he arrived in Canada he started the first foundry in the Toronto district and trained his children in that business.

In the records compiled here from the parishes of Wendron, Redruth and St. Gluvias, Cornwall there are probably children from three families of Samuels and Elizabeths as listed below.

Samuel Treloar and Elizabeth Williams md. 20 Feb. 1804 Helston.

Samuel Treloar and Elizabeth Plaint md. 1827 Redruth.

Samuel Treloar and Elizabeth Oxenberry md. prior to 1828 .

We are interested in the first marriage and the children presumed to belong to that family are marked with an asterisk, Of the children so marked John James stayed in Toronto while Henry and Samuel located at Sutton West, Ontario. One of the younger boys fought and was killed in the Civil War in U.S.A.
