Name origins
This is the trip we've taken so far trying to track down the origins of the TRELFORD name.

We have two sources that think the Trelford name originated in Cornwall. Cousin Penny in Canada and cousin John in the U.K. Cousin John thought the name came from Looe or Polperro, Cornwall. I (Heather) decided that I would investigate further. I contacted the webmaster of the Polperro.org web site and asked him if there were any Trelford records there. He said there were not. He wasn't sure though if the name derived from Looe. After a few e-mails he said he thought the name was Welsh.

Cornwall
Marcia, our genealogy super sleuth, found an interesting reference on the net. There was a Margaret "Jane" Trethford (pretty close spelling) whose father's surname was spelled Trethuriffe. He was from Tretherffe, Cornwall. I also found a reference to a Thomas Tretherffe residing in Tretherf, Ladock, Cornwall. This leads me to believe that the name is indeed Cornish.
