John TRELFORD
News item from Tara paper [?] 1 Sept 1881 , it reads:
THRESHING ACCIDENT -- Tuesday afternoon Mr. John Trelford had a pretty close call. He was engaged in threshing on the farm of Mr. T Ackley, near Invermay, and while stepping over the shafting his pants caught in the coupling. He grasped a stake and thus prevented himself from being wound around the rod. His nether garments were stripped off and torn to shreds. A few scratches and bruises was the only injury Mr. Trelford sustained.

The Bruce Herald Walkerton, on 19 April 1888, reported the following:
A rather ugly, fracus occurred at Allenford on Wednesday evening last. For some time previous a young man named Daum, of Amabel, was in the employ of Mr. J Trelford, hardware merchant and tinsmith, as pedlar, and things not going to suit him in some way on the evening above stated he got "pretty full" and demanded a settlement with Mr. T.

Seeing the youth was a little off, Mr. Trelford demurred, and asked him to come in the next day when he would square up with him. At this Daum became very abusive and dared his employer to come outside and he and he would take it of his hide. This Mr. T. would not think of doing, and a war of words was the result, until finally Mr. T lost his temper and ordered the young man out of his store. He refused to comply, and secured an axe handle with which to defend himself. Trelford did likewise, and in the melee that followed the intruder received a severe cut over the head and had one finger of his left hand broken by the blows from the axe handle as wielded by his opponent. The disturbance soon attracted a crowd, and the combatants were separated.

John certainly lived an interesting/exciting life. I suppose Mr. Daum was paid off shortly after.
