Sarah And James

Chambers

Sarah Haines was born about 1825 in either Ohio or Indiana.  On the census reports, it gives both states.  I'm not sure who her parents are, however, On the 1850 Benton Co., IA census, there is an Aaron Haynes, age 59, living with Sarah and James.  Sarah's maiden name was given as Hanes on her son Augustus's second marriage license.

Sarah then married James Chambers,  before 1850.  It is not known, at this time, if she divorced Elijah or if he died.  I have not been able to find a marriage license for either of Sarah's marriages.

James parents were possibly James and Sarah Chambers.  This information was given to me by David Osborne.

Sarah and James had 6 children:

        1.  John F. Chambers born May 1850 in Iowa.

        2.  Sarah Jane Chambers born 27 January 1854 in Benton Co.,  Iowa.

        3.  James Irving Chambers born abt. 1856 in Iowa

        4.  Asa Elmer Chambers born abt. 1858 in Iowa

        5.  Elzada Chambers born abt. 1860 in Iowa

        6.  Dayton T. Chambers born abt. 1867 in Iowa.

Sarah and James seemed to have stayed in the Benton Co., IA and Linn Co., IA area after they were married until moving to Stanton County, NE.  Below, you will find the census reports that I have gathered on them.

In 1885 I found that Sarah Chambers and Heirs sold their land in Benton Co., IA, March 16, 1885.  On the land deed record, Mary was listed as owner of the land they sold and James made his mark as agreeing to the selling.  He was the only heir mentioned.  In the Vinton Semi-Weekly Eagle newspaper  on the 20th of March in the Marysville Mentionings gossip column, it says that James is thinking of moving to Nebraska.  They moved to Stanton, Stanton County, NE.

Sarah died 30 September 1896 and is buried in Section B, Lot 58 in the Stanton City Cemetery, Stanton, NE.  Odom Hooker bought the lot according to the burial records.  Also buried in the same section and lot are 3 children of Odom Hooker, O D Hooker ( assumed to be Odom), James Chambers, Mrs. O. D. Hooker (Sarah Jane daughter of James & Sarah), and Bert Hooker.

I would be very happy to have more information on any members of this family.  I have given links to some of the other people who have given me information on their family connected with my family.  Please contact them and myself if you have further information.

*NOTE:  If the links to the children don't work, it may be that I'm still working on them, they will be put it.   In the meantime, please e-mail me and I'll be happy to give you the information.
