FUNERAL SERVICES were conducted today for WILLIAM L. SMITH, 73, former flagman for the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad for 35 years, who resided at 14 South Clinton street.  He died here Sunday after a brief illness.  Services were at 20 Smith street and burial was in Lloyd cemetery.

William L. Smith, 73, former flagman for the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad for 35 years, who resided at 14 South Clinton street, died here, Sunday.  He had been ill only a brief time.

Mr. Smith, who had been retired the last four years, was born in Kingston, Nov. 6, 1883, the son of the late Lorenzo and Abbie Horton Smith.  He was educated in schools in Ulster county and came to this city from Ulster county approximately 40 years ago.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Nicholas Endekas, city, and Mrs. Aaron Williams, Esopus; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 20 Smith street, at 2 o'clock, tomorrow.  The Rev. William T. Gray, rector of St. Paul's church, will officiate.  Burial will be in the Lloyd cemetery, under the direction of the McCornac Funeral service.  Friends may call at 20 Smith street tonight.
