In "Tangled Roots and Twisted Branches" this information was originally tangled up in the section on the LEGG family. I have separated the PLOEG family out to its own section - hopefully this will make it a little less confusing to read.
HENDRICK ALBERTSE (the name PLOEG was first used about 1690, when he first bought property in Wiltwyck / Kingston) was an early settler of Albany. He purchased land in Esopus 7 September 1660. He married Tryntje Pieters (OSTRANDER). Tryntje came to this country 1650 from Amsterdam, Holland with her sister Grietje, and brother, Pieter Pietersen, the children of Pieter and Tryntje Pietersen. (They assumed the surname OSTRANDER). Pieter married to Rebecca TRAPHAGEN.
- Their son, JAN PLOEG, baptized 5 May 1681 in Dutch Church, Kingston, married Elizabeth BURHANS (daughter of JAN BURHANS).
- Their daughter Margrit PLOEG, baptized 15 April 1723, Kingston Church married Petrus Kreinse Osterhout (son of Kryn Osterhout and Mary Ploeg).
- Their son PETRUS OSTERHOUT baptized 6 June 1752 married Elizabeth Van Wagenen (daughter of Johannes Van Wagenen and Elizabeth BURHANS).
This Elizabeth Burhans born 24 August 1718 was the daughter of BARENT BURHANS and Margrit J. Matthysen. She married
I: 1739 PETRUS OSTERHOUT (son of Petrus J. Osterhout and Heyltie Schutt)
II: Johannes Van Wagene baptized 1722 (son of Simon Van Wagenen baptized 7 April 1689 and wife Mary Schepmoes baptized 1689).
This Mary Schepmoes was the daughter of Johannes Schepmoes and Neeltje Gerritts. Simon Van Wagenen was the son of Gerritt Aartsen (who took the surname Van Wagene from the town in Holland from which they came). Gerritt married Clara Pels baptized 10 September 1651 NY, who was the daughter of Evert Pels and Jannetje Simons.
Gerritt Aartsen was the son of Aart Jacobsen and Annetje Gerritts. He came to this country in the early 1660s from Wageninger on the Rhine River, about ten miles from Arnheim in Gelderland.
[from KINGSTON DUTCH CHURCH Records pg 514]:
ALBERT JANS PLOEG / young man born Kingston / married 17 April 1699 Rachel Pier / daughter of Pieter and Tryntje Pieters (OSTRANDER). Rachel was the widow of Arie Frannsen (DeLONG)."In presence of Arian Roos, Geesje Pier, Nucella and Mary Singer, was Rachel Pier married in her Chemise, over her clothes, to Albert Hendrick Ploeg, by me DOMINIE."
(It was the custom, in order that the new husband not be responsible for any debts of the widow from first marriage, to marry in the nude or near nude.)
