Mary (Carmichael) Milroy is great great grandmother

RHINEBECK IN THE LEAD.

According to the New York World of last Friday, Middletown has the distinction of having by the recent birth of a child, the only great great grandmother in New York state.  Evidently the New York journalist did not reckon on Rhinebeck, for it has held that distinction for over two years, says the Gazette.  Mrs. Robert Milroy, who resides with her son Lafayette Milroy, on Montgomery Street, has been a great great grandmother for over two years.  The five generations are as follows:  Mrs. Robert Milroy, aged 87; Mrs. John S. Bowman, aged 63; Mrs. Charles Simmons, aged 43; Mrs. Chas. Herrick, 21; and Master Harold, age 2 years.  Mrs. Milroy has living five children, sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  She also has two sisters living, each over 80 years of age.

MRS. MILROY 91 DIES IN COUNTY

Mary Carmichael Milroy, wife of the late Robert Milroy, died at her home in Rhinebeck on Tuesday, October 26, aged 91 years and 6 months.  She was born April 17, 1818, in Kelso, Scotland.  In 1835, at the age of 17, she came to this country, and in March, 1839, married Robert Milroy, also a native of Scotland.  Some years later they settled at Lafayetteville, Dutchess county, N. Y., where Mr. Milroy carried on the business of tailoring until the breaking out of the Civil War, when he and his son, William, enlisted in Company C., 128th N. Y. V.  Mr. Milroy was at that time 50 years of age and the oldest man in the regiment by a great deal.

Long obituary - I put this on a separate page as it is very long.  It has a lot of information in it, though.
