Braunfels, Germany, where some of this line originated.

1. Susan Triebel (dates unknown) was the sister of my great great great grandfather, William Triebel (1817-1889).  This family seems to have come from the area of Braunfels, Germany.  Susan remained in Germany and married Henry Hess.  They had five children.  Some of their descendants came to the United States in the 19th Century - those who did seem to have all settled around the area of Troy, Cohoes, and Albany, New York.  Many present-day descendants still live in the area.  All of the information and photographs on these pages have been generously contributed by others, so please let me know if I've gotten anything wrong or if you'd like anything added.
   1. Frederick Hess married Louisa Jacobina.  They had five children

      5. Johanna Paula Hess (1874-1944) was born in Braunfels, Germany.  She came to the United States to live with her aunt and uncle, Henrietta Hess and Frank Wachtel (see below).  Johanna married in 1893 to Charles Heinrich Joseph Fleck (1851-1921, also born in Germany).  They had four children.  Johanna is included in a Wachtel family photograph (see below).
         1. Ruth Amelia Fleck (1894-1988) married in 1916 to Algernon Olin Niles (1893-1985)

         2. Mabel Paula Fleck (1896-1980) married in 1923 to Ezra Dalidansky / Ezra Robert Daly (1897-1980)

         3. Helen Thelma Fleck (1903-1980) married in 1923 to Reverend Earl Fryer (1900-1987).

         4. Carolyn Louise Fleck (1906-1981) married in 1969 to John Van Hatten (1891-1969).

   2. Henry Hess married and had two sons, Robert and George.

   4.  Henrietta Ernestine Josephine Hess (1851-1913) was born in Braunfels, Germany.  She came to Troy, NY to visit her uncle, William Triebel (1817-1889) and stayed to marry Franz or Frank Wachtel (1842-1930, born in Gieboldehausen, Germany).  They had seven children.  Click the photos for a page with more information about these family photos.
      1. Anna Marie Wilhelmine Wachtel (1873-1923) married in 1894 to Walter Louis Schneider, Sr. (1872-1953).  I have a newspaper clipping about their wedding.
         1. Jeanette Henrietta Schneider (1899-1933) married in 1927 to William Jesse Norris (1895-1982).

         2. Walter Louis Schneider, Jr. (1906-1983) married in 1931 to Eileen Leonora Fennelly (1903-2000).

      2. Henrietta Jeanette "Hattie" Wachtel (1876-1946) married in 1900 to Charles Benjamin Henry (1874-1949).

      3. Alma Louise Caroline Wachtel (1878-1894)

      4. Frank Henry Wachtel (1881-1963) married in 1909 to Minnie Hibbert Wheatley (1888-1921).

      5. Flora May Wachtel (1884-1970) married in 1920 to Herman Louis Krause (1876-1953).

      6. Estella Wachtel (1887-1892)

      7. Harry Wachtel (June 1889 - July 1889)
