Justice of the peace here for a number of years, Horace Bowman, 80, who had held a number of other town offices including town clerk and assessor, died early this morning at his home here, where he had resided for more than 50 years.
Born in the town of Milan, May 1, 1891 (sic. - should be 1861), the son of Albert and Frances Story Bowman, Mr. Bowman came here as a young man. After his marriage to Margaret Ten Eyck, Oct. 31, 1893, he built the home in which they resided until his death. He always had engaged in farming and was a member of the Pine Plains Methodist church. Although in ill health for some time, he had held the office of Justice of the Peace until his death.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Albert Bowman, Salisbury Mills; a daughter, Mrs. Albert J. Myers, Poughkeepsie; three grandchildren, Shirley and Virginia Bowman, Salisbury Mills and Marjorie Myers, Washington, D. C ; a sister, Mrs. Lily Piester, here; and a half brother, George Bowman, Stanfordvllle.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Pine Plains Methodist church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. H. B. Grossman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, under the direction of Frank S. Roberts and son. Members of the town board will serve as bearers."
