Group 4, page 2
Most of the cards on this page did not have postmarks on them, but some did have hand written dates. Due to the shape of these photos, several of them had quite a bit of empty space at the top or bottom. I cropped these photos to reduce file size and so that the faces would show up bigger.
Joe Frost. Mr. Frost appears to have been a logger.
Bertha Grillbirtzer? and Tishie? Gilliland. Card is addressed to a Mrs. Fannie Klein in Hollywood, Florida. The date on the message appears to be 1988 and there is a 15 cent postage stamp, but the card is obviously much older than that. Possibly someone mailed an old postcard they happened to have around? I have blurred the address in case the message really is modern. The message on the back reads:
"6 / 20 / 88?
Hi, Boo Boo,
It finally rained today! The grass, flowers + trees really needed a drink! I planted some flowers today. I took a lazy weekend off to do some work in the office + at home. Have a good week --
Love, Bonnie"
A. L. Haskell. When I enhanced this very faded photo, an awful lot of dirt and grain and noise was enhanced along with the image - it will be tough to try to make it look decent.
Ellis Kendall. Photographer's mark on the back reads: "Photo Department, 38 W. Fifth St., Duplicates supplied at any time; We do Amateur Finishing and Enlarging"
"Henry Kippley, friend + school mate"
Betty Knight - relative of Hattie Miller in the photo below according to the relative who claimed both photos.
Andy Konoskiski, 908 6th Ave., Ford Oily? (not sure about the name of the town), Pa., R. O. G. B.? (Koniskiski appears to be the name of the addressee - this may or may not be the man in the photo)
"Jules Kostsós?, Budapest, 18 - VI - P12."
"Ella Maare & family & grandchildren." This was a card with a square photo on one half of the front and a lot of blank space on the other half.
Thomas B. Martin and Harry Parrott. Card is addressed to Mr. B. P. Brown, Dallas, Texas. The message on the front reads: "Mr. Harry Parrot - London, England and Thomas B. Martin, Waco. Sunday, April 19 - '08." The message on the back reads:"A reminder of an evening with Joseph Weldon Bailey - Waco, Texas. Thursday, April 23 / '08. "Yours for an answer" Thomas B. Martin, Box 207, Waco, Texas."
Mary McClintoc and un-named relative. I am assuming the second person is related or at least a neighbor as both photos were pretty obviously taken in the same tree.
Edgar W. Mead. "To Antie (sic.), E. W. Mead, (Edgar)"
Fred Myers, Jessie Hanscom, Ruby Myers, Will Jones, Alton Hanscom. The card is addressed to Miss Flora Hart, Agency, Iowa.
Myers - two photos (farm and group) from 1910 on front of same card. Unknown whether these people are related to the other Myers individuals on this list (in the photo above with the Hanscoms). I was able to get the farm house to come out all right, but the family group is very difficult and contrasty. I suspect these are copies - photos that were taken of photos - which would explain the loss in image quality. There are two descriptions on the back of the card - one for each photo:Group photo: "1910 Back row - Uncle Joe Myers, Aunt Eliza, Lottie, Susie, Aunt Mary, and Uncle Joe Purcell. Front row - Dr. F. D. Hersey, Eva, Milen?, Laura Purcell"
Farmhouse photo: "Uncle Joe Myers house with stump fence in foreground 1910"
