Group 4, page 1
Most of the cards on this page did not have postmarks on them, but some did have hand written dates. Due to the shape of these photos, several of them had quite a bit of empty space at the top or bottom. I cropped these photos to reduce file size and so that the faces would show up bigger.
James E. Atword? or Edward? of Waveland, Ind.
"Patty Barr + me taken at grand stand for Campbells race. The beach & ocean are in background. The white lines are breakers or surf."
Theresa Berisch. The photographer is given as Breiner Studio, 1534 S. Broadway, St. Louis, Mo.
Jake Bernstine. The photographer is given as S. S. Wheeler, Binghamtom, N.Y.
"Raymond Bettleyon (Grandmother Smith's)"
Edna Bowers
Miss Bredeson. I cannot make out her first name in the return address. Possibilities I have come up with so far include Lena, Terra, Nena, Neva, and Vera. The return address is given as "????? Bredeson, Wash - House, Fargo, N. Dak." The sending postmark on the back reads "7 - 30 P, Aug. 23, 1908, Fargo, N. Dak." The addressee is "Mr. L. A. Burneister?, Jr., 1153 18 St., Milwaukee, Wis." The receiving postmark on the front is blurred but appears to read "8:30 PM, Aug. 24, 1908, Milwaukee, Wis." The message on the back reads as follows (parentheses are hers):
"(Hello 928)
How are you today? At last I have a rare likeness of myself, and will send you me. Please exchange further.
(Your unknown friend)
S. C. E? C? (924)"
Bobbie Keith Brown. The note at the top of the back of the card reads "Your Cousin Buzzie Brown wife Dollie & Son Bobbie Keith." The message on the bottom reads:"This is our Son. Bobbie Keith Brown at 3 years old Nov 2?
We wish you all could come & visit us some time & would be nice to get to know you all better. Mother Brown always tells us about you all and that she has a nice visit with you in the summer."
Ethel Caldwell. This photo has gone all blotchy with age - possibly due to deterioration of the chemicals from poor processing. It will take quite some doing to fix her up so she looks nice again. This card is postmarked July 1, 1908, Noel, Mo. and addressed to Miss Mabel Combes, Pineville, Mo. The message reads (parentheses are hers):
"Dear Mabel:
We are getting our pieces for the gold medal contest + my frie? is in the book that you got yours out of no. 9. Send it to me please. Let me borrow it if you want to keep it if you don't I will buy it send it tomorrow night."
Across the top of the back is written:
"My piece is Judge - (somethings) "Reason" or "Saved" + I don't know which yet. The book your first piece was in."
On the front is written: "Tell me how much the book is if you will sell it if not I will learn my piece + send postage for sending it down."
The return address is written across her skirt: Ethel Caldwell, Noel, Mo., July 1, 1908.
Hester Carbi? I cannot make out the last letter in this baby's surname.
"Eleanor Mae Charlier, Age 26 months & 24 days. Earl Lester Charlier, Jr., Age 24 months. With the fancy handwriting, I may be mis-reading the name - it could easily be CHAILIER or something else similar. Dec. 19, 1916." The name "Lillian Horton" is also on the back - this is probably the addressee. The card for Bob Dimmick below was also addressed to Lillian Horton. "Photo by GEO. H. CHANDLER, 86 Chenango St., Binghamton, N. Y."
"March 26, 1918 from Esther and Nelson Counter". The name "Mrs. Nellie Caswell" is probably the addressee.
Herbert and James Couser?
Bob Dimmick, apparently a souvenir photo taken at Luna Park in Scranton, Pa. Addressed to Miss Lillian Horton, 191 Water Street, Binghamton, N.Y. The postcard of the Charlier babies above was also addressed to Miss Horton. The sending postmark on the back reads "12 - M, Jul. 20, 1908, Scranton, Pa." The receiving postmark on the front reads "4 - PM, Jul. 20, 1908, Binghamton, N.Y." On the back of the card are the notations "Souvenir Luna Park" and "Luna Park Photo Co., Scranton, Pa." UPDATE - Mr. Dimmick has gone back to relatives in Pennsylvania.
"Yours Sincerely, Jim Donald, 1914"
