It was organized by the old "Blue Slate" Church in 1844. Rev. David Earhart was first pastor and Rev. L. M. Kuhns in 1852. Since then it has been under the Freeport Charge. Their building was erected in 1846 by John Myers and Jacob Hawk. The church edifice about 25 X 38 feet, frame with clay filling between the studs, hence called the "Mud Church". The church was erected during Rev. Earhart's pastorate. The ground of the graveyard was cleared by Charles Sipes Sr in 1796 and put in corn. It is located almost in the center of the township.
