CAMP FamilyFirst Generation1. Thomas1 Camp (#28) birth date unknown. He married twice. He married Ann. (Ann is #29.) He married Mary Nelson. (Mary Nelson is #30.) Thomas Camp and Ann had the following child:
2. Thomas2 Camp (Thomas1) (#26) was born in Spaldington, 1789/91. He married Mary. (Mary is #27.) Mary was born in Balkholme 1792/3/4!. I haven't found a birth record for Thomas yet, but I believe that he is the son of Thomas Camp who was married to Ann. Ann died 21 Feb 1792. The parish records have "poor" by the side. It could be that they were too poor to have Thomas christened or that with the death of Ann it was overlooked. The difference in the years of birth are due to the census records and Bubwith parish records for his death. Neither of which are reliable! Thomas married Mary, who was born in Balkholme. Again I have found no record for this (other than the fact that they are shown as married in the census's). There was a Thomas Campey who married Mary Beverley in Brayton in 1815. It gives his age as 22 (would have been born 1793) and Mary's as 20 (gives birth year of 1795) In the 1851 census, Thomas is 60 (birth year 1791) and Mary 59 (1792) The 1861 census shows only Mary at age 68 (birth year 1793) but the 1871 census shows her as 77 (birth year 1794) I know that the ages on census's are not reliable, but it also depends on what month their birthdays were, and what month the census was taken. Also if you cant read or write, how do you remember how old you are!! Also adding weight to these being the right people are, that there was a Hannah Beverley Camp of the parish of Bubwith who married George Hayton in Bubwith in 1836.The middle name of Beverley perhaps being her mothers maiden name. Fathers names were not recorded. Interestingly one of the witnesses was called Shallum, unfortunatly I couldnt read his surname. Is this Shallum the one who the others were named after? Thomas and Mary are shown in the census's, see the census page for details. Thomas Camp and Mary had the following children:
Shallum and Francis are buried in the same grave in Castleford.
Third Generation4. Thomas3 Camp (Thomas2, Thomas1) (#18) was born in Spaldington, 1821. Thomas died 1896 Bubwith, at 75 years of age. In 1844, he married Jane Harper in Bubwith (ref parish records). (Jane Harper is #19.) Jane was born in Eight and Fourty, East Riding 1825. Jane was the daughter of James Harper and Ann Daniels. Jane died 1897 at 72 years of age. Thomas was at the time of his marriage a man servant and Jane was a maid servant. Both are shown as living in Spaldington. Memorial cards can be seen in photos, memorial card section. Also census records are available in census section. Thomas Camp and Jane Harper had the following children:
Fourth Generation13. James Harper4 Campy (Thomas3 Camp, Thomas2, Thomas1) (#16) was born in Spaldington (ref Bubwith parish records), 1845. He married Caroline Wilson in Bubwith, 1866. (Caroline Wilson is #17.) Caroline was born in Eastrington 1849. Caroline was the daughter of Joseph Wilson and Ruth Wilby. James was actually christened James Camp, but changed his name to James Harper Campy along the way somewhere! His brother was christened Thomas Harper Camp (he changed his surname to Campey) Maybe James thought that he had the middle name of Harper (his mothers maiden name) too. All the rest of the brothers and sisters started off as Camp, but changed to either Campy or Campey. Even their parents in the 1871 census were shown as Campy, although in all the others years were just Camp, and James's father Thomas was buried as Camp while his wife, Jane was buried as Campy (see photos...memorial cards) James was married at Bubwith Church Dec 4 1866 the same day as his sister Hannah (who married William Neal). James Harper Campy and Caroline Wilson had the following children:
I haven't found any record of the death of Alfred or Elizabeth, but I think it must have been before 1871, as both he and Ann Elizabeth are not shown on the 1871 census. (see census page)
The address's on Mary Ann's and Georges marriage certificate are, 11 Altofts Terrace and 8 West Street. Georges occupation was Railway platelayer. . Georges occupation was Railway platelayer. Witnesses were Joe Bellwood and Laura Campy.
Jemima was born in Wades Yard in Castleford, West Yorkshire. Jemima married Albert Lockwood April 22 1895 at the Parish church in Castleford. At the time of her marriage, she was living at 8 West street and Albert was living at 49 Hunt street, Lock Lane. Her occupation is given as glass founder and Albert was a Driver. Witnesses of their marriage were, Thomas Campy and Laura Alice Campy. Albert was an engine driver, although at the time of his death in 1926 was listed as "formerly an electrician at the coal mine". After Albert died, Jemima opened a shop in Castleford. It was a bakers and her son Wilfred was a pastry chef there. Jemima died 1966 in Hemsworth Hospital (ref death certificate), at 90 years of age. Her body was interred 1966 in Allerton Bywater Church. Photos of Jemima, Albert and the shop can be seen in the Photos page.
She is buried in the same grave as James Campy who died in 1875. As yet I do not know who this James is, as no age is given at death. It cannot be her father, James as he was still having children in 1891! It also cannot be her brother James Wilson Campy as he is buried with his wife in another grave, but maybe it is another earlier brother called James who died before James Wilson Campy was born. I have a memorial card for Lucy which you can see in the photos/memorial card section.
31. Thomas5 Campy (James Harper4, Thomas3 Camp, Thomas2, Thomas1) (#57) was born in Castleford (ref 1871 & 1881 census), 1870. His body was interred 1900 in Castleford, Castleford. He married Martha Ann Clampborough. (Martha Ann Clampborough is #137.) Martha was born 1870. Martha was the daughter of Edward Clampborough. Thomas died Dec 22 1900 aged 31, and was buried in Castleford (grave no. L203) along with his son Thomas Wilfred, who died 26 March aged 16 months, the same year and his daughter Mona Rosamond, who died the following August 22 1901 aged 6 months ( Martha Ann would have been 7 months pregnant when Thomas died) Martha married again in1902, and married Herbert Matterson. Thomas Campy and Martha Ann Clampborough had the following children:
