Hocking County is a county located in
the state
of Ohio, United
States. As of 2000, the population was 28,241. The County was formed by
an Act of the Ohio General Assembly on March 1, 1818. Its county seat is Logan6. Its name is from the Hocking
River, the origins of which are disputed but is said to be a Delaware
Indian word meaning "bottle river". The Hocking River flows through the County, which was once claimed by
the Wyandot Indians. These native
Americans called themselves the " Lenne-Lanape or real people. Hockhocking in their native tongue
meant " bottleneck". The Hockhocking River, renamed the Hocking
River , flows down narrow gorges |
