21 April 2006 - Friday

†††† Knowing that our drive to Colorado would be just over 500 miles we were up early and by 7:00 am we had said our good-bys and were on the road again.Driving through the southern part of Wyoming we took note of the dry rolling grasslands.Although there were beautiful mountains off in the distance one must travel to the northwestern part of this state to be among the really majestic peaks. We did enjoy several sightings of antelopes grazing near the highway.

Antelope in Wyoming

Just west of Cheyenne we turned south on Interstate 25.Upon entering the State of Colorado

we knew that we were beginning to get close to,our destination for the day, the small town of Ault.

†††† At about 3:30 pm we arrived at the home of Tomís friend Shannon Daughtrey where his wife Marlis greeted us.We spent sometime chatting†† with our†† hostess who acclimated us to her tidy well-maintained home.Shannon had built the home himself some 20 years earlier and it evident that both have taken great pride in making it a very comfortable place to live.

†††† Around 5:30 pm Shannon arrived home from work and his brother John soon after joined us.In the twilight Shannon grilled huge top sirloin steaks for our dinner. We spent the remainder of the evening sitting outside enjoying the clean air and warm temperatures.††† Both of us had our own bedrooms and bathrooms. This indeed was a luxury not to be surpassed during our entire journey.Fredís bedroom was decorated in a camping cabin motif that included a bed made of log poles, various touches such as a blue porcelain coffee pot set upon a wooden stump.
