The Canote Family was one of the early pioneers in America. Believed to have come over as early as 1750 they were quick to move west. Jacob Canote is first seen in Hagerstown, Maryland circa the 1770s. Sometime in the 1790s, he moved to Augusta Co., Virginia, and by the early 1800s we see him in Madison Co., Kentuckey. Just across the Ohio River from him, Indian Wars were yet to come and much of the Northwest Territory was still wild. From here the Canotes spread to Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. They then went further afield to California and Colorado.
