Elizabeth Catherine Long was born 26 March 1845 and died December 13, 1912. She was the third child of Joseph Blackburn Long and Emaline McCoy.
Her date of birth is recorded on a list of "Joseph B. Long's Family ages" which was found in papers belonging to Minerva Long Baker.
Elizabeth was married 23 December 1869 in Williamson County to David Sheppard Baker.
Dave was the eldest son of Sheppard Baker and Sinah Harris. Sheppard Baker was living in Arkansas with his children before coming to Texas. His first wife died and he married Sinah Harris in Williamson County, Texas, on 7 August 1849.
David Sheppard Baker was born in 1850 in Texas. A Baker family history says he was born 26 May 1845, but he was one month old when the 1850 census was taken. His death certificate gives his birth as 1845 as well, but may have been dependent on the same source as the family history. The year 1849 seems much more accurate and should perhaps be 1850. David Baker died on 11 June 1937, at his old home. He and Lizzie are buried at Comstock, Texas.
Dave Baker was a stockman, developing a large ranch in Val Verde County on the Devil's River, known as Baker's Crossing.
An old picture of the early house is referred to as "Ft. Hudson" as well as "Baker's Crossing". The possible location of Ft. Hudson or Camp Hudson has not been investigated. It may or may not be the same as Baker's Crossing.
The back of the original picture says, "Guy Phillips, John Bently, Jim Baker, Will Baker, George Baker, Sheppard Baker
