*A. William Long lived in Shelbyville, Tennessee, m. Elizabeth Black during the time he was married to Elizabeth Black, who died there. Their children were born there. Children: I. July 25, 1825 b. Aug 21, 1839 d. Feb 28, 1887 d. Apr 6, 1882 He was a member of the Christian Church. A 6' 2" tall man, weight 210 lbs. Born in Shelbyville, Tenn., but after his mother's death he lived with his two aunts in Alabama. He came through East Texas and roamed around as a gambler, making much money - at times more than he could carry. Was known to light his pipe at times with dollar bills. He stayed for a while in the Indian Territory and was almost killed in a dispute with the Indians over his lost blanket. The Indian Chief set him free and he never returned to the Indian Territory. In Caldwell County, Texas, he met Mary Forman and they were married Jan 1, 1861. In May he joined the Confederate Army fighting in the Civil War, and became a Captain. Returning from the War he saw his four year old son, William Walter Long, for the first time. (Children listed on another page) III. William Long lived in Atascosa County, Texas. Died on the Nueces.
