Andrew Jackson Long and Queen Ila Boren

Andrew Jackson Long was the second child of Louisa J. McFarlin and Samuel Anderson Long. Andy Long was born 23 October 1848 in Hallettsville, Lavaca County, Texas. He is described in a biographical sketch in the Historical and Biographical Record, 1895 which says:
After his father's death, he remained with his mother, until he was twenty-two years of age. While working for his mother and others, before his majority, he accumulated some money, and at the age of twenty-two commenced the business of life for himself in Frio County, and while herding and attending to his own cattle he frequently worked for others, receiving $12 per month. From Frio he went to Medina County, in 1873, and in 1875, sold out his interest to Jim Lowe. He then gathered cattle for J.N. Simpson, in Taylor County. He moved to Nolan County in 1877, and remained there until 1881, then going to Garza County. He has ranches in Garza and Fisher Counties.
Andrew Jackson (Andy) Long (23 October 1849-10 August 1930) married Queen Ila Boren (25 November 1861-9 May 1933) in Bell County August 11, 1881. She was the daughter of Isaac Boren and Mrs. Mary Queen Cave.

Mr. Long stated in an interview in 1920: "Where Abilene now stands was once my old roundup ground I've rounded up there I'll bet a hundred times. My brother, Frank and I together had about 1,200 head between 1875 and 1877. When the grass got low and the beeves didn't get fat, we sold them and they were driven into Wyoming and Montana."

The obituary of Mrs. A.J. Long tells how her husband extended his holdings in cattle and purchased the O.S. Ranch from R.H. Overall at Coleman. After operating this for 20 years, Mr. and Mrs. Long moved to Fort Worth in 1899, and in 1901 Mr. Long sold the ranch. At his death on August 10, 1930, Mr. Long owned a vast amount of real estate around Fort Worth and a ranch in Borden County. He was a director and vice president of the American National Bank at the time of its consolidation with the Farmers and Mechanics National Bank. After the take-over by the Fort Worth National Bank, Long continued as a director and was on the directorate at the time of his death.

He died in Galveston, at the Hotel Galvez on 10 August 1930. He was 81. The death certificate gives the immediate cause of death as senility. He was on vacation with his wife and son, Lawrence, when he died. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.     The families maintained contact for some time, and even visited each other. Josephine Long Rogers, daughter of Bill and Parilee Long, told of at least one trip she made by buggy with her parents to the Fort Worth area to visit the family of Andy J. Long, her father's brother. That would have been a long and tiring trip, as it now takes six hours by interstate highways in a fast car. Josephine was quite impressed with the comparative wealth of her North Texas cousins. She also said that her cousin Mable had come to visit in Atascosa County. Mable probably came by train.     The children of Andy and Queen Long were:
