James M Rogers and Mary Jane Mitchell

    James M Rogers and Mary Jane Mitchell came to Atascosa County, Texas from Louisiana. They married in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana, in 1870. James M. Rogers was ordained a minister in the Baptist church in that parish on July 2, 1882.
    The 1880 census of that parish, ward 5, shows James M. and Mary J Rogers, both age 30 and born in Mississippi. With them are their children Sarah 7, Alonzo 5, Richard 2 and John W age 2 months.
    The household also includes Fulks cousins: John M 15, Mary O 11 and Robert S 8; and cousin William Thomason age 13.
    The Rogers family was in Texas by March of 1885, when Lula was born and died on the fifth day of her life.
    Mary Jane Mitchell Rogers died 6 February 1894. She was buried at the Old Rock Church in the northwest corner of Atascosa County, Texas. Her tombstone gives birth and death dates of 13 Oct 1848 - 6 February 1894. Rev. J. M. Rogers was buried beside her when he died in 1922.
