The Witherell Family Album
In 1989, Patti Perry purchased a family photo album along with a quilt at a flea market in the Atlanta, Georgia area. It wasn't until 2001 that she was able to trace the album to the Witherell Family of Chesterfield, Massachusetts. Apparently, it had been sold at an estate sale at some point. Using the known birth and death dates of the identified people in the photos, we can date the book to the mid to late 1880's.
The lovely little book, leather bound with brass buckles, carries this inscription (photo below) by Earl Hermon Pitcher (b. 4/26/1889 Owego, NY . d. 11/1973 Jacksonville, FL): "Please preserve this book, as sometime it may be valuable. It once belonged to the famly of Henry Witherell, his son Charles A., and then to his son Arthur L." To that end these pages are dedicated.

The album is 6 in. by 4 3/4 in. and it
consists of 50 pages, 1 photo to a page. There is an introductory
page that reads "The American Photograph Album" and at
the end, there is an "Index to Photographs" that was
not filled in. There are a total of 45 Photos. The back of quite
a few photos have the photographer's logo & address and that
is included on the page for each photo when available.
UPDATE: In October of 2004, Patti Perry was able to track down descendants of Charles & Henry Witherell, David and Dick
Witherell, and presented the family album to them.
