William Driggers

William Driggers was born Bef. 1735. Just before the Rev. War, the family moved from Cumberland Co., NC. to Cheraw District SC. He was a Revolutionary War soldier, serving in South Carolina.
It is unknown who his wife was.
Son of William Driggers was Jonas Driggers, who was born Abt. 1755 in Cumberland Co., NC, and died 1822 in Bulloch Co., GA. He married Elenor "Ellen" (Unknown) Driggers Abt. 1775 in Cheraws Dist., SC. She was born Abt. 1754 in SC, and died Abt. 1860 in Bulloch Co., GA.

Jonas Driggers was a Revolutionary War soldier, serving in the SC Militia.
Just before the Rev. War, the family moved from Cumberland Co., NC. to Cheraw District SC.
Jonas Driggers, a forefather of the Driggers connection in South Georgia and North Florida, moved to Effingham County, Georgia, while others of the family remained in South Carolina.
In 1796, his home place was cut into Bulloch County, Georgia when it was created. His widow, Ellen was appointed his Administratrix of the estate after his death. Bulloch Co. deed records show a gift instrument conveying cattle and other property from Mrs. Ellen Driggers to her grandchildren, Johnson, William, Dennis, Elenor & Elizabeth Woods, all of Bulloch Co., Georgia, dated 28 Mar 1826.
Elenor "Ellen" Unk Driggers died in Bulloch County at the age of 104 years.

Jonas & Ellen's son, William H. Driggers was born 30 Nov 1776 in Cheraws Dist., SC, and died 1879 in Columbia Co., FL. He married Emily "Millie" Lastinger 03 Nov 1806 in St. Phillips Parish, Bulloch Co., GA, daughter of John Lastinger and Anna Huber. She was born 25 Jun 1784 in Effingham Co., GA, and died 1860 in Lowndes Co. Ga..
William H. Driggers grew up in Effingham County where his father was granted land in 1788. In 1796, with the formation of Bulloch County, the family was cut into that county.
It is believed William was the father of 10 or 12 children.
His land was again cut into a new county in 1812 when Emanuel County was formed partly out of Bulloch. Sometime about 1827 they moved to Lowndes County and settled on the east side of the Alapaha River near the present town of Stockton. It was there that most of the children married.
William and Millie, along with their sons, moved to Columbia County, FL between 1840 and 1845.
Record is found in Bulloch County of deed from William Driggers and wife Millie to George Albritton, dated March 26, 1813, conveying 400 acres granted to William Driggers in 1807. He was granted two tracts of 400 acres each in Emanuel County, one of which on 15 mile Creek was his home place. Their daughter, Rebecca Driggers was born 29 Aug 1811 in Bulloch Co., GA, and died 03 Apr 1878 in Echols Co., GA. She married Harris Tomlinson 1830 in Bulloch Co., GA, son of William Tomlinson and Nancy Register. He was born 18 Feb 1808 in Bulloch Co., GA, and died 01 Jul 1867 in Echols Co., GA.
