Lester and Laura Ferguson came to settle in the Iron River area of
Bayfield County, Wisonsin in 1907.
Their farm was 160 acres in section 2 of the township of Hughes
(Northwest of the town of Iron River).

Today the Iron River Airport is on a portion of what once was their
farm.
Half of the farm is also Bayfield County Forest land today (the Western
40 acres and the Northern 40 acres).
Not much remains of Lester and Laura's
home.
During a search of the area I was able to locate to foundation pads and
some bricks that were once part of the chimney. In the house area there
was a Lilac bush and a Apple tree that likely are remnants that go back
to the time of their home here.
There are ruins of an old outhouse just to the North of where the
house once stood. It is impossible to tell if these are remains of
Lester and Laura's out house or one that was used for the Airport when
it was built. The house was removed or destroyed at some point, but
perhaps they left and continued to use the outhouse for the Airport.
There
is also a pipe sticking out of the ground. This looks like it could
have once been the well. What makes it very hard to tell to
tell if the out house and pipe are from the farm or Airport is that the
original entrance to the Airport was located in this area after the
house was gone.
The images below are taken while walking around the 160 acres that once
blonged to Lester and Laura.
