Death Calls Aged Resident
On Tuesday morning, June 8th, at seven o'clock, Nelson Ferguson died at
his home in the county, two miles north of this city, of a general
break-down due to the infirmatiesof old age, aged 78 years. Up to
about two years ago he enjoyed very good health, but at the time he
became ill and later underwent a number of operations in the hope of
postponing the hour of final surrender to the silent reaper. He
was never strong after the operations, and for several weeks his family
was aware that it was only a matter of a short time before he would
pass away.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by seven children - Mrs. Ella French, of
Madison; Mrs. Mary Mead, Mrs. Alice Rogers, and Lester Ferguson, of
this city; Clinton Ferguson of Lake Nebagamon, and Orrin Ferguson, who
is engaged in railroad buisness at some unknown point in the
west. The wife of the deceased died when comparatively young, som
thirty-eight years ago.
The funeral was held this afternoon from the farm residence and the
internment took place in the city cemetery. Rev. E. E. Day,
pastor of the Congregational Church, officiated.
Mr. Ferguson came to Iron River in the early 90's and took upon himself
the task of clearing up a farm, although he was then in advanced
years. As a monument to his industry and thrift, he leaves behind
one of the best farms in this section, and nearly all of the clearing
was done with his own hands.
