Samuel F. and Lodemia (Silver) Young

SAMUEL FLEMING YOUNG (1843-1934) was the twin brother of Melissa Eleanor Young. In 1862 he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was wounded and captured at Mufreesboro. He was paroled in 1863. After the war Samuel married Lodemia Silver and the couple had three children:
 1) Buena Vista Young (1866-1908) m. James Edwin Robinson.
     J.E. Robinson was a minister, and he and Buena moved to Madisonville, Tennessee where
     he pastored a church. Buena died and is buried there.
 2) John Lloyd Young (1868-1937) m. 1st Sallie Tom Young 2nd Sudie Young
     John L. lived on the farm with his parents. He had an adopted daughter, Grace,
     who married Champ Ray and lived near her adopted parents. John L. was a 
     highly respected member of the Newdale community (see his obituary below).
 3) Hettie Ellen Young, m. Martin Van Buren Young.
     Lived in Marion.

Yancey County lost one of her most widely-known and most respected citizens in the death in Iowa last week of John L. Young, of Newdale, at the age of 68. Mr. Young had gone to a sanitarium in that state for treatment and succumbed while there.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning by the Spruce Pine Masonic Lodge of which Mr. Young was a member for over 40 years. Reverends Bolick of Micaville, Tipton of Burnsville, and McNair of Spruce Pine, officiated.
The Westmoreland Funeral Home conducted the funeral. Active pallbearers were: Garrett Phillips, of Asheville; Wm. Anglin, P. J. Randolph, D. R. Fouts, Ransom Silvers, Carl Silvers, James Hutchins and M. E. Burleson.
Mr. Young was the son of Sam F. Young and was born near where he spent all of his life. His grandfather came from Virginia to this section.
His mother, who was Miss Lodemia Silver before her marriage, is still living at nearly 95 years of age. The widow, one sister, Mrs. M. V. Young of Marion and adopted daughter, Mrs. Ray, of Newdale, also survive.
Mr. Young had always taken an active part in community affairs. He was for 35 years a member of the Martin's Chapel Methodist Church of Newdale. He also served on various boards and committees, progressive farm movements, receiving much of his time and attention.
