Ellis' first wife, Laura Greene Young (1862- 1897)

 GREENBERRY ELLIS YOUNG  (December 29, 1860- June 18, 1942)
 m.1st Laura Greene (1862- 1897), the daughter of John C. Greene and Isabella Stewart Greene, and the sister of Wash Greene. Laura's maternal grandfather was Blackston Stewart, the brother of Frankie Silver.

 Laura Greene Young died of appendicitis and is buried in the Young cemetery on Arbuckle. Martha Young, a black woman who was a member of a family of former Young family slaves, served as a nursemaid for Ellis’ children until he married again. In 1899 Ellis Young married 2nd) Eva “Evey” Young  (1871- 1945), his first cousin.

          Children: 1 son, 1 daughter

(A fifth daughter of Ellis and Evey Young died at age two.)
    In the early 1900's Ellis Young's family moved from the Arbuckle community to live near the Hoot Owl Mine at Liberty Hill, Mitchell County. They worked at this feldspar mine and operated a boarding house for the miners. Ellis Young and Evey Young and several of Ellis' children are buried at Liberty Hill Church Cemetery.
