James, a son of Peter and Olivia (Sexton) Snyder was born Febroary 18, 1817, in Whitley County, Kentucky

James married Matilda Hammond, January 7, 1839 in Whitley County, Kentucky. Matilda was a daughter of Benjamin Hammond and Nancy Ann Pemberton.

After the birth of their son Benjamin in 1850, they left their home in Kentucky and headed west. Along with many other Whitley County, Kentucky families, James and Matilda settled in Mercer County , Missouri.

Benjamin P SNYDER (1851-1932)

Benjamin P., a son of James and Matilda(Hammond) Snyder, was born March 1, 1850 in Whitley Co., Kentucky. Soon after his birth, James and Matilda, their children, and other Snyder families left Kentucky, relocating in Mercer Co., Missouri

Benjamin, known as Ben in later years, married Mary Matilda Dillard in Mercer Co., Missouri, 1869. Ben and Matilda had nine children, eight living to adulthood. Matilda died in 1901.

He remarried December 15, 1905 to Sarah Jane Hutchinson. Ben and Sarah had one son. Sarah's sons Otis and Thurman were also part of the household.

Ben died of pneumonia December 21, 1932 in Mercer County, at the age of 81. He is buried in the Princeton cemetery.

Louisa SNYDER (1856-1934)

Louisa, daughter of James and Matilda Snyder, was born 8/4/1856, in Iowa, probably Wayne County. She is recorded on various records as Louisa, Louiza, Lou, and Louise.

She married George Goodin about 1877. George's last name is spelled variously on records as Goodin, Gooden, Goodwin, and Goodgwin.

Lou and George had two, possibly three children. A birth record for a daughter born 10/23/1884 is probably "Oakie" who appears with them on the 1900 census. Another daughter , Millie B, age 3 is on the 1880 census. The birth record in 1885 indicates she was the 3rd child for these parents, gender and age of this child unknown, but would have been born prior to 1885.

Louise' death , 11/15/1934, is recorded on a death certificate, with George as informant, burial in Early Cemetery, Mercer County, Missouri.
