BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

I know that breast cancer awareness month is in October, but for a lot of us it is an every day awareness. Once you have been diagnosed with breast cancer it does not go away. I had a total radical mastectomy of the left side on Sept.3,1993. I had gone in for my first mammogram and not having a family history of breast cancer I didn't expect the results. I had one tumor the size of a baseball and one the size of an egg. Wouldn't you think I could have felt these, well think again I had large breast and they were so close to my ribcage that they had to scrape my ribcage. Then 6 months of Chemo, which wasn't that bad. They have new medicine to counteract the side affects. And 5 years of taking Tamoxifen. I now have been cancer free for 12 years I still have to get a bone scan once a year, check ups and test to make sure it hasn't come back. Because the glands are gone on that side I have to be careful with that arm. I had years of edema with hospital stays as many as 15 in one year.

And like the heading says be aware not scared of breast cancer. A lot has to do with how you perceive it. Don't think of it as your cancer you can never except that you will not get well but you have to trust in GOD and one way or another you will get thru it. It scares so many people but you are not going to die til your time comes and only GOD knows when that is.And if it is now so be it. My advise is live every day one day at a time and treat it like it could be your last. One more thing I must say this is not just a woman thing ,did you know men can get breast cancer ,too?

And you may ask how did the edema stop when my doctors, and I had a lot of them couldn't help,at one point they were thinking of amputating my left arm. Well, I have a friend Micheal Cronin who lives in England. I won't go into a lot of details but the last time he was here about 3 years ago we got together for some deep meditation's and he does laying on of hands and it has not come back since. I am a great believer in GOD'S power to heal no matter who he uses as his hands. Prayer is the most powerful thing we have. Prayer has gotten me this far in life and will stay with me always. SEPT.16,2007 = I just received the news a couple of days ago that my older sister Nancy has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer it is also in one of her glands but does not seem to have gone any farther. She lives in Watertown, Jefferson Co., New York and I live in Florida. Her and husband David have started to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for treatment and I will fly out Wednesday to meet them. She has an appointment on Thursday to start treatment there. I need to have everyone who reads this say a prayer for her. I will keep this updated on her progress. I was the first of our family to have breast cancer a mammogram is so important to get even if you don't have a family history of it. You could be the first and it can be treated.
