This was printed in an unidentified newspaper dated Oct. 1,1939---It was signed Florentine Vincent, Route 1, Cape Vincent,NY

Benjamin Vincent,son of Nicholas,the second,who was son of Nicholas, the first, who was son of William the emigrant who came to America about 1659 or 60. William and sister Jane settled in Pawtucet,R.I. Benjamin lived in Stephentown also in Russia,town of Norway,Herkimer County,New York,came with his family to Clayton,Jefferson Co.,NY. in 1819. He married Mary (Polly) Frier as soon as she landed from Germany. She refused to talk German with her children probably not to interfere with their english accent. Their children were:

Freeman born about 1787,went west after 1823,died there.

Gardner born 1789,died 1862,died in town of Clayton,Jefferson Co.,NY.

Nicholas born 1791,died 1878in town of Brownville,Jefferson Co.,NY.

Hinckley no dates.

(Sam) Wilbur born 1794-1875 died in Clayton,buried there.

Charles no date.

Abram born 1799,died 1886, died in town of Clayton.

Enos born 1800, died 1883,buried at Whitelaw,Madison Co.,NY.

Polly born 1804 died 1865,buried in Depauville,NY.

Washington born 1815 Clayton NY died 1858 Oswego Co.,NY.

Benjamin Vincent son of Nicholas and Mary Earl Vincent of Town of Norway,NY,Herkimer Co. married Polly Mary Frier as soon as she landed from Germany,lived in Russia,NY. and came to Clayton,NY. in 1819,Jefferson Co. Their children were:

Freeman born about 1797,lived at three Mile Bay in 1823,later went to Galesburg,ILL.

Gardner born May 14,1789,married first Mabel Bradley,second Elmira Gloyd.

Nicholas born 1791 died 1878,buried Dexter,NY married Elizabeth Joy.

Sam Wilbur born 1794 died 1875 married Easter Sheley of Clayton,second Emily Bishop of Clayton.

Charles no date.

Abram born 1799 died 1886,married Eleanor O'Connor.

Hinckley no date.

Enos born 1800 died 1883 buried at Whitelaw,Madison Co., married Polly Willoughby.

Polly born 1804 died 1865 married James Plumb.

Washington born 1815 died 1858 buried at Arthur,Oswego Co. NY> married Belinda Graves of Clayton,NY.

Belinda Graves Vincent married second to Stephen Gardner. She is buried at Mexico,Oswego Co.,NY. Son Nicholas Gardner.

The Vincent Family in America traces their ancestery to William Vincent who emigrated from England about 1660 with his sister Jane and settled in Pawtucket,R.I. Jane married John Sheldon 1660.

William married first Priscilla Carpenter his cousin between 1685 & 1867. William Vincent married second time Jemima. He died in 1695,left three sons Thomas, Nicholas, and William. Jemima married second Robert John Reynolds of North Kingston,R.I.

Nicholas married his step sister Elizabeth Reynolds daughter of Robert John Reynolds ,second husband of William Vincents widow Jemima.

Children:Nicholas the second. married Mary Earle

Jemima married William Clark

William married Zerviah Rudd.She married second Elijah Hinckly.

Mary married First Ephraim Bacon,second Samuel Hinckley.

Mercy married Elisha Freeman

Joseph married Anna Dunbar

Elizabeth married Oliver Lewis.

Deborah married Nicholas Gardner

Hannah married Elijah Hinckley

Joshua died young

James Vincent born June 14,1788 and married Sally Rathbone, sons:Dr. Elmer Vincent who married Julia Barney and Samuel who married Hulda Blythe.

Welcome Vincent and Shadrach Vincent,brothers were sons of a Nivolas and Welcome was surposed to be father of above James. I believe this line to be that of the late Bishop John Vincent founder of Chautauqua. --Florentine Vincent

NOTE: I copied as it was. I know William that imigrated from England settled first in Greenwich R.I. and then Pawtuxet,Providence,R.I. Nicholas was stepson to Jemima so when she married Robert Reynolds it hardley makes that his step sister.Also have determined that Jemima's maidian name was Bennett. There were Bennett's living next door to the Vincents at that time.
