My line of Moye's are said by, family members ,to have came from North Carolina to settle in South Carolina and Georgia and then to Florida. It is not real clear where they came from before North Carolina. I believe that they may have come in to a Southern Port as immigrants from another country. They are suppose to have been of Dutch descent but could have been from England also. I haven't gotten that far back. The Moye name seems to be one of the hardest to trace back which tells me we may be looking in the wrong place. My husband told me once all Moye's were related. But I have found a lot of African American Moye's. When my husband had an Insurance route years ago he had a family on it that he talked to about their name being the same and was told that their ancestors were slaves on a tobacco farm in Georgia and when slavery ended they took the owners last name. The also talked about Jenks ancestors as having had a tobacco farm with slaves and as they were from the same area decided that they indeed did have a relationship of sorts. I have been able to trace the name back to Jack Moye. And for years he was my brick wall until one day someone who was also tracing the same line found him to be Jackson Moye. That opened the door to another generation. The family are very proud and honest people. They are very stubborn in character on an average they run about 6' tall give or take an inch or two. Also are large men without being fat. If you check under My Genealogy you can find the line. If you can connect to it please let me know. The county's in Georgia are Colquitt, Pitt, Mitchell Co's and probably more. I have found that the name of Moye is mostly found in Georgia.
I have now found that Jackson Moye was John Jackson Moye and that he was born in Virginia. Still I don't have a lot of information but if you look under my tribalpages you will see some of the lineage there. We believe J.J. Moye was married at least three times And his 4 sons that I have listed are from his first marriage.
