BRICK WALLS

If you are new to genealogy I will explain what a brick wall is in case you have never heard of the expression. Even if you haven't heard about them I know by now you have come across one. It is where you can not find any trace of a certain ancestor, or their parents or even something about one that has a difference of opinion's between the descendants. It also could be refered to as a missing link. It could be any reason as to why you can not find any thing on someone , a date off or a name wrong. We all have the tendency to believe what information was passed down to us or as we can say if it's written in stone(Tombstone). Well it is a proven fact that all information written in an obit , on a tombstone or work passed down can have mistakes even big one's. When I received my mothers death certificate they had made about 3 or 4 mistakes I had them corrected, but a lot of people don't bother to.If it is something that hasn't been decided by close family members that for instance yes, that is wrong my mother was born on a different date. Then the best thing to do is make a notation that the records show a difference and why you think or know they are incorrect. If it is a close member you can safely change it. Even then it is good to make a note as to why you know it is correct. Being a part of your records as such this source will speak for you a hundred years from now. Here are a few that have come up in my genealogy & maybe yours. We may never find the right answers to these. That is another reason you always check & double check your work, it is SO easy to make a mistake we are all human. Another reason I always say "if you find a mistake or correction in my work please let me know."...Thelma.
