Biography of John H. Gotham






Gotham, John H., was born in Watertown, August 3, 1840. He spent his boyhood in the public schools and on his father's farm. He is a son of Jennery and Carolina (Hutchinson) Gotham, who were natives of this State. His ancestors were of English descent and settled in this country in the early part of the nineteenth century. February 2, 1869, Mr. Gotham married Syntha Kelsey and they had two children. Mrs. Gotham died September 7, 1887, and March 19, 1889, he married Mary, daughter of James and Isabella (Byers) Henderson. Mr Gotham is a prominent member of the I. O. O. F. and the Encampment, of which lie has been treasurer for the last seventeen years. He attributes his success to his own patient, methodical habits, punctuality, thrift and unceasing attention to business at all times.
