Memories
of Thurmaston, Volume 2, Launched
Thurmaston
Heritage Group is pleased to announce the availability of a new book, Memories
of Thurmaston, Volume 2. The launch of the book took place on Saturday,
19th November, 2011, at the Old National School, Melton Road, Thurmaston. Members
of the Heritage Group provided a small heritage display of photographs, text and
maps, and a Powerpoint visual display. The day was a great success, with
members of the public bringing along their own family photographs and memorabilia
to be copied by the Heritage Group.
Thurmaston
Heritage Group at the March 2012 History Fair
Thurmaston Heritage Group was amongst 48 local history societies that took part
in the Leicestershire Archaeological & Historical Society sponsored History
Fair that was held at Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse, Leicestershire, on the 25th March
2012.
The day was a total success with something for everyone
on view. There was an archaological roadshow - to which people bought all sorts
of interesting artefacts; there were book sales; mini-talks throughout the day;
history tours of the hall; and children's activities.
Members
of the Thurmaston Heritage Group enjoyed meeting a variety of people on the day,
receiving new information, and selling the groups Memories of Thurmaston
books.

"Drop-in afternoons" 2012
The Thurmaston
Heritage Group have two 'drop in' afternoons arranged for 2012, as usual at the
Thurmaston Memorial Hall. Each meeting is a social event to encourage people to
share their memories of Thurmaston. You may bring along to each afternoon meeting
any photographs, memorabilia, documents, or ephemera that relates to Thurmaston.
Members of the group would very much like to see such source material, and also
listen to people's memories of the village. If you would like to share your knowledge
of Thurmaston with the group 'drop-in' to one of the meetings at Thurmaston Memorial
Hall, 2-4pm, on either the 14th May or the 11th June.
