Samuel B. Underwood was born about 1810 in Kentucky. He was living in Jasper County, Mississippi by 1840, and was enumerated on each census from 1840 - 1880. Samuel was married to Elizabeth. (Elizabeth may have been Elizabeth James.) He died after 1880 and is buried at Mt. Pisgah Church cemetery in Jasper County, Mississippi.

William C. Underwood was born about 1842. He was the son of Samuel B. Underwood. He was married to Nancy Jane Mitchum Simmons on 21 January 1874 in Jasper County, Mississippi. Nancy Jane died on 25 April 1895 and is buried in the Louin City Cemetery, Jasper County, Mississippi. William's second wife was Nancy (Nannie) Ford. William Underwood died in 1916 and is buried in the Fellowship Cemetery, Smith County, MS.
Nancy Jane Mitchum was the daughter of Bartlett C. Mitchum and Nancy Caroline Camp. Nancy Jane was married to William Wesley Simmons on 03 October 1864 in Jackson County, Alabama.

Samuel T. Underwood was born 20 October 1875 in Jasper County, Mississippi. He was the son of William C. and Nancy Jane Underwood. Samuel married Emma Vera Alexander on 28 November 1894 in Jasper County, MS. Samuel moved his family to Smith County, MS about 1898. Emma died in 1907. She is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery near Mize, Smith County, Mississippi.

Samuel married Ellen (last name unknown). The 1920 Census of Smith County lists Ellen Underwood with two children, a son Tilson, age 10, and a daughter Lula, age 8. Sam Underwood named Tilson as his son in his will. Ellen is listed as widowed on the census. Land records found in the Smith County courthouse named Ellen as the wife of Samuel T. Underwood.
By 1913 Samuel and his third wife, Alma Coley had moved to Geneva County, Alabama. Alma died March 13, 1926. Samuel married Jessie Howard on May 7, 1926 in Coffee County, Alabama (Marriage book 23, Page 222). Samuel died on May 22, 1942 as the result of an accident on his farm. He is buried at Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery at Coffee Springs, Geneva County, Alabama.
