Howard Cash

 Born about 1759.  Died 06 July 1843 in Habersham County, Georgia.  Buried in Howard Cash Family Cemetery, Broad River Road, Banks Co. Georgia

He was married to Lucy Tyler (1761 - 1830).  He also married Esther Starrit on 03 Dec 1831 in Habersham County, Georgia.   

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

Howard Cash's Will is found in the Minutes of the Ordinary for the January Term, 1844, Probate Court Book 4A, Page 235, Habersham County, Georgia.

In the name of God. Amen. 

I Howard Cash Senior of the State and County aforesaid, being some what diseased in Body but of sound mind, memory and understanding (Praised be God for it) knowing the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and that I might be the better prepared to leave this world when ever it may please the Almighty God to call me hence, I do therefore make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, In the first place I commend my Soul to God who Georgiave it, hoping for pardon of all my Sins, and admittance into His Heavenly Kingdom, through Jesus Christ my Savior.  My Body I resign to the Earth, to be Buried, at the Discretion of my Executors herein after named - The residue of the Property with which it has please God, to entrust me with now chiefly consisting of live stock, such as Cattle, Hogs, & Farming utensils Household and Kitchen Furniture & the balance of my property have by me been given away to my Wife Easter Cash, and to my Children by Deed of Gift to them each separately - First my Will is that all my just Debts that may by me be owing at my death be fully paid and satisfied, also my Funeral expenses and the proving and all other expenses touching this my will, be fully paid of. Then my will is that all the property I may die possessed of not otherwise disposed of may be sold to the highest bidder and after paying all expenses & charges, the balance of the proceeds thereof to be equally divided amongst my wife Esther Cash and all my children equally share and share alike and I do also hereby constitute and appoint Nelson Cash and Reuben Cash (my two sons) to Execute this my last Will & Testament.  In Witness whereof I the said Howard Cash Senior having hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal Declaring it to be my last will and Testament and hereby revoking all former wills by me made, this Nineteenth day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Two.  Signed Sealed and acknowledged in the presence of Alexander Erwin, Ezekiel McCravey, Wm. J. Recsk.

Howard Cash Monument to Be Unveiled on Sunday, May 28

    Sunday, May 28, 1939 at 2:30 p.m., at the Cash cemetery, six miles east of Cornelia near Broad River church in Banks county, the descendants of Howard Cash, a Revolutionary soldier, will unveil a monument to his honor, which has been furnished by the War Department of the United States government.

    Hon. Robert McMillan of Clarkesville, Judge of the Northeastern Circuit, will deliver the address.  Habersham Post No. 84, American Legion, under Commander C. C. Hipps, of Cornelia, will attend in a body.  Two of the past commanders will deliver addresses.  The Cornelia Boy Scouts Troop No. 24 has been asked to attend in a body and help direct the people who attend the unveiling of the monument.

    Howard Cash was one of the original settlers of Habersham county.  He came first from Virginia to Elbert county, now Hart, and then to Habersham upon its establishment in 1818.  He was a member of a distinguished Virginia family and his wife by his first marriage was a relative of President John Tyler of Virginia.  He has a large number of descendants and (continued on page 8) (continued form page 1) relatives living in Hart, Franklin, Jackson, Banks, Habersham, White, Stephens and other Georgia counties.

    A large crow is expected to attend these unveiling exercises.  The program will be in charge of Mrs. Mary Cash Lane, who is secretary of the Cash-Duckett-Chambers Family reunion organization. 

    Those wishing to attend from a distance will pass through Cornelia south over the paved road to Homer, turning the the left about 4 miles from Cornelia at the old Maxwell place.

REUBEN CASH  

Reuben Cash, son of Howard Cash and Lucy Tyler, was born 19 December 1797 in Amherst County, Virginia.  He married Elizabeth Buffington on 10 December 1818 in Elbert County, Georgia.  He died 06 June 1866 in Banks County, Georgia and is buried in the Reuben Cash Family Cemetery on Route 105, Banks County, Georgia. 

Elizabeth Buffington was born about 1802.  She died in August 1868 and is buried in the Reuben Cash Family Cemetery on Route 105, Banks County, Georgia.

The Will of Reuben Cash is recorded in Banks County, Georgia Will Book 1858-1879, page 77.  Heirs: Wife, Elizabeth Cash, sons Preston C. Cash, Barton A. Cash, Joseph B. Cash, William M. Cash, Thomas Cash, Bird Cash, daughter Martha Wright, children of sons Alfred and Raiford Cash.  (Alfred and Raiford Cash died during the Civil War.  Another son, Dillard Cash also died during the Civil War.)

PRESTON C. CASH  

Preston C. Cash, son of Reuben Cash and Elizabeth Buffington, was born 20 June 1843.  He married Sarah Ann Buffington about 1865.  Reuben died 01 May 1922 in Hart County, Georgia.  He is buried in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Hart County, Georgia 

Sarah Ann Buffington was born 01 May 1841. She died 06 August 1922 and is buried in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Hart County, Georgia.

Preston enlisted in Company D, 43rd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, CSA along with his brothers Alfred J. Cash, Dillard H. Cash, and Rayford A. Cash, and a cousin, Clark Martin Cash.   Alfred died in April 1862 at ChatanooGeorgia, TN.  Dillard and Rayford died in May 1862 in Atlanta and are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia.
