ADA ALEXANDER
Ada Alexander was born about 1882, probably in Crittenden County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of William Alexander and Tennessee "Tennie" Jenkins. Ada married Romie McGowin on 14 February 1898. Ada died near Tyronza, Arkansas on 27 October 1918 during the influenza epidemic. She is buried in an unmarked grave in the Tyronza cemetery. I have not been able to obtain a death certificate from the State of Arkansas.
William Alexander was born about 1831 in Tennessee. He was the son of James Alfred Alexander and Polly Gouger. William was married to Mary Jane Shoemaker on 13 March 1858 in Crittenden County, Arkansas. (Marriage Book A, Page 242; marriage performed by F. W. Thacker, Minister of M. E. Church South.) William and Mary Jane are enumerated on the 1860 Crittenden County, Arkansas census (page 831) with their daughter, Elizabeth, age 7. I have not been able to locate William on the 1870 census.
William married Tennessee Jenkins on 30 October 1873 in Crittenden County, Arkansas (Marriage Book D, Page 26; marriage performed by A. Conly, an ordained minister of the M. E. Church. Record filed 24 Nov. 1873.) The 1880 Crittenden County census lists William, Tennessee, and son A. B., age 5. According to information received from older family members, Tennessee died when Ada was born in 1882. Ada was raised by Mary Jane Pipes Guest Prince Eastep.
There is a marriage record of William Alexander to Clara Roach dated 23 May 1883 in Crittenden County, Arkansas. I have not been able to confirm that this is the same William Alexander.
James Alfred Alexander was born about 1801 in North Carolina. He married Polly Gouger on 10 December 1825 in Carrabus County, North Carolina. James was living in Crittenden County, Arkansas as early 1833. He appears in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census records of Crittenden County, Arkansas. James married Nancy Thompson on 14 January 1859 (Marriage Book A, Page 254) James died on 18 November 1865 in Crittenden County, Arkansas.
