Ziegelfarb & Cygelfarb I have listed every one of the Ziegelfarbs and Cygelfarbs from the index.

The first 2 are Josef and Perel (Joseph and Pauline Ziegler). They list a contact for Josef's brother-in-law Jessel Brenner at 10 Pitt St. New York. The 1900 census shows a Morris Brenner and family at that address.

The next is Dina, who I believe to be Josef's sister. Roslyn Pfeffer had mentioned a sister Dinah. Dina lists a brother G. Siegelfarb at 294 Delancey St, NY. I find no match at that address (or at 274) in the 1900 census.

The others are new.

Elie lists a brother H. Ziegelfarb at 310 106th St, which matches Josef's address when he applied for naturalization in 1903. Elie's record is transcribed as saying "ethnicity: Russia, Polish," but I read it as "Russia, Hebrew." The town of residence appears to be Napotschy, but I find no such town. I assume it to be a misspelling of Opoczno.

Marie came on the same ship as Elie, but is listed two pages later. She lists a husband Max at the same 310 106th St. address. I read the town she is coming from as Tomaszów, 13 miles from Opoczno. There is also a Tomaszów Mazowiecki that is 16 miles from Opoczno.

The name transcribed by EllisIslandRecords as Mariani appears to actually be Mariam. Her name also appears typed on the list of detainees, where it is Maria. She lists a brother J. Ziegler at 212 E 106th St., which is the address that appears on Joseph's naturalization record. She was picked up by her brother Adolph, who has the same address.

Ohil lived in Belgium but was born in Lodz (near Opoczno). His father, Neudel Cygelfarb, also lived in Lodz.

Feder & Fiderer The index contains entries for almost 900 Feders. The entries here are the ones that appear to be from Worwolince or are otherwise known to me.

The first, second, and fourth are unknown. Feige Feder's father is Leib Behr Feder, who already lived in Perth Amboy, NJ. That is exactly the name that three-year-old Louis used when he arrived with Kohos in 1913. I'll bet Louis was named for Feige's father.

Could Rose Fiderer be Riwka Feder? The manifest shows she was born in Tluste. The year matches the fact that Tillie always said Riwka left when Tillie was 3, but it does not match information on Riwka's immigration from the 1920 Census. The transcript lists the residence as Wila, but I read it from the actual manifest as Wien (Vienna).

The group in 1913 are Louis Feder and his family. This matches the ship manifest he had already sent me. The transcript shows Kohos' age as 56, but I read it as 36, which matches other information on him.

Taube Feder in 1920 is aka Tillie Spierer.

The final group of Fiderers is from a town near Chortkow. They were heading to Philadelphia. I should check with Bergenfelds about Fiderers.

The ellisislandrecords web site has the wrong link for the manifest image for Isak Feder on the Patricia. The correct frame numbers are 547 and 548.

Bergenfeld I have listed every one of the Bergenfelds from the index.

Two appear to be from Worwolince. Solomon and David appear to be brothers. Both list Moses as their father. David lists Solomon as a brother already in NY.

Two of the Bergenfelds, Perl and Rochel, are from Zwiniacze/Fwiniacze. The initial 'F' on one of those is just a transcription error; it is clearly a 'Z' on the document. There is a town I see listed as ZVINYACH / DZVINYACH just 7 miles south of Worwolince which is close enough to seem unlikely to be a coincidence. These 2 appear to be sisters (Perl is mistakenly listed in the transcript as male, but the document shows 'm' crossed out and replaced by ditto marks (indicating 'f')). Both list Chaim as their father.

The fathers listed above, Chaim and Moses, would have been about the right age to be brothers of Sarah and Shnider. Benny Scharf says that Chaim sounds familiar as a brother, and he says that Rochel sounded familiar as well. Moses did not seem familiar to him.

Four of the Bergenfelds are from Bilcza-Zlota or Bilcza. There is a town I see listed as BIL'CHE-ZOLOTOYE / BIL'CHA / BIL'CHE / BILCZE / ZLOTE just 7 miles east of Worwolince. Again, this is close enough to seem unlikely to be a coincidence.

A curious note about the Bergenfelds from Bilcza. Note that Sara & Alma arrived just 8 days before Sara & Anna arrived. Note that the ages match, too, as do the name of Sara's husband and mother. Apparently rather than being 4 different people, this is the same pair making two attempts at crossing. Perhaps they tried to get on the first ship, and then had to delay for some reason. This is supported by the fact that the first pair is crossed out on the ship manifest.

Finally, there is one Romanian from Zvororsta. I don't see any town closer than 100 miles to Worwolince that could match this name. He is lists his brother N(?) Bergenfeld as already living in New York.

Rosenbach and Silbershein Solomon Bergenfeld (above) lists his cousin, Berl Rosenbach, as already being in the country. The Rosenbach's thus appear to be cousins of my cousins, but I don't know if they are directly related.

Berl Rosenbach from Capowce is listed here. He apparently almost came on the Amerika, was crossed off of that manifest, and actually came a week later on the Patricia (the exact same voyage as Isak Feder, above, but they are not listed near each other). ShtetlSeeker lists a town 8 miles northwest of Worwolince called CAPOWCE / TSAPOVKA / TSAPOVTSE / TSAPOVTS. Remember that 'c' in Polish is pronounced like 'ts' in English.

The wife, Salie, and children of Berl Rosenbach arrived a few years later (with the name transcribed as Rosenhanch). They came from Worwolince, strengthing the possible connection to them.

Salie Rosenbach traveled together with Abraham Silbershein who was from a nearby town. Another Silbershein, Eliza, (transcribed as Lilbernhein) was from Worwolince. Schmerl and Taube Silbershein were siblings of Abraham.

Spierer Spierers from Worwolince and Zaleszycki (Sol Spierer was born in Zaleszycki in 1911).

All but Ruchal and Bina are unknown to me.

The Hersch Schapiro listed here is the husband of the Alta Spierer who came to the US nine years later (according to both of their manifests). I don't think this is the same as Hersh Lieb Spierer because the wife is wrong, the age is wrong, and the year of arrival is wrong. Apparently there were two Hersh Spierers/Shapiros in Worwolince.

Something curious here is that the 1921 ship manifest shows Alta, Klara and Leid crossed out, but the other children are not. Why? All I can think of is that they died on the ship.

Feller Jacob Gottfried is buried in the Feller Circle. On the manifest, he lists his cousin E. Feller at 8 Extra Place, NY. That could be Emanuel or Eliezer Feller.

Edith Roselinsky tells me that Molly went back to Europe from the U.S. to get Dora. The 1920 Census says Dora (Feller) Grossman arrived in 1907, and Becky (Feller) Greenberg's naturalization petition says she arrived on 9 Sep 1907 on the SS Zeeland under the name of Regine Feller. They are listed as going to M(ax) Feller care of I(sadore) Rosenstock. Esther is Molly's daughter. The 1907 group here clearly matches. Interestingly, Mali's husband is mentioned as Dore's brother, not brother-in-law (is this Dora Prostak rather than Dora Grossman?). It is also confusing as to who is in which generation (Dora, Ester, and "Lexgine" are all listed as grandchildren of I(saac) Feller, but it seems that M. Feller is respectively their brother, father, and brother-in-law).

David Feller (indexed as Fellcr) came in 1909 with his wife Henie (indexed as Henic). Henie is also known as Hanna, Heneh, or Annie. They came with children Abraham, Chaim (Herman), Rebeke (Rose), and Willcl (William?). Already here was their son Max (husband of Molly), at 288 Broome St. in New York. Left behind was their daughter, D??ojne Prostak, who is apparently Dora. The town name looks like Boronz.

The 1920 Census shows Morris Feller living with Dora Feller Grossman. It says Morris arrived in 1910. Shown here is the only Morris Feller to arrive anywhere close to 1910. The manifest shows his father as Isak, his sister as Mali Feller, and his brother-in-law as Max (Molly's husband), so this is surely right.

Israel Feller was son of Jossel Lieb Feller and brother of Henry Feller at 155 Rivington St. or 62 Ave B.

Elias Feller, son of David and Hanna, arrived in 1920. He listed father Isak Feller in Verbanti and sister Dora Feller at 636 Wallis Ave, Bronx. Dora and Sam Grossman are at that address in the 1920 census.

The David Feller who arrived a month later appears to the the son of Joseph buried in the Feller Circle. He listed a mother Jopf Feller in Mamagestiew and brother Isadore Feller at 80 Ave B, NY.

The parents Isak and Miccic (Minnie) finally arrived in 1921 with their three youngest children.

Towns

Verbanti could be Verbăuţi (aka Verbivtsi, Verbotzi, Verbouts, Verbovtsy, Wasłowce), which is near Zaleshchiki. It might also be Fierbinti, which is well to the south, near Bucarest.

The best match I can find on town name Mawernice is a town SE of Czernowitz called MAMORNITSA.

The best match I can find on town name Mamajesli are a couple towns NW of Czernowitz called MAMAESTII-NOUI / NEYMAMAYESHTI and AL'TMAMAYESHTI / STAROMAMAYEVTSY (new and old Mamayeshti?). The manifest of Israel Feller in 1911 confirms that "Van Mamajesty" is near Czernowitz.

Pilpel
I have listed every one of the Pilpels from the index.

Two children named Pilpel were listed on the ship, "Finland". There were no adult Pilpels listed, so I looked a little more closely. They were apparently accompanied by a relative, Gitel Eitelbrg[sic], so I added her to the table as well. It says their passage was paid by Gitel's son-in-law, Samuel Pilpel. I would thus guess that Gitel is the grandmother of the children. Samuel lived at 209 Chrystie St in New York -- other Feders and Bergenfelds lived in that same neighborhood.

Others from Worwolince I don't know if these are related to me, but I am tracking anyone from Worwolince. Might one of these be Frank Hinkes (18 May 1889 - Oct 1965) listed in SSDI with SSN 060-05-4673?

Matijosaitis Anton was heading to Connecticut and is apparently the Anthony who founded that branch.

Petronella was heading to Worcester, MA.

Kasimir Szilartis (or Szilaitis) lists an uncle Jonas Matijozaitis in Chicago. The street name for Jonas is unreadable, but the number is 2907. I read Kasimir's town as Nankasim.

The name transliterated as Rasmus Matejuzaitio really says Kasimir Matejozaitis (Charles Mathews). He lists a brother Jonas Matjosaitis in Chicago. The street name for Jonas is unreadable, but the number is 2907.
