These pages describe the growth of Carl and Mary L.'s family over the years. We four sons always called them Mother and Daddy, so I'll refer to them that way.
Daddy was born on Dec 18, 1909 in the little crossroads of
Tyler, Missouri, which is in the very southeast most corner of . They didn't stay long, however, and shortly after Daddy was born, they moved to Missouri . Mother was born on April 6, 1912 in Lone Oak,
. At the time, her parents lived on Kentucky North Friendship Road, about where the is now. When Mother was about 7, they moved to a 100 acre farm near Maxon Mill in Lone Oak Grade School West Paducah. Mother lived there until she got married. Mother was the third child of two brothers and five sisters. For more on Mother's parents family, see the James Washington Burnett family page.
For the remainder of this page, we'll concentrate on Mother and Daddy and their family.
We'll start with a picture of Daddy at about the age of 9 months, taken in 1910.
Daddy was raised with his brother and sisters at the family home on the Hinkleville road, now US highway 60, just outside of
. The house was beside the railroad just north of the railroad overpass. On the left is a picture when he was about age 7 in 1916. Paducah

This is a picture of Daddy and his brother Bill (William Roswell Osborne, Jr.) extracted from their school class picture,

Daddy and Mother first met while both were working at Grants Department store in
in 1929. The picture on the left was taken in 1931. The picture on the right was taken in 1932 and they appear to be standing on the walkway that led from the garage up to the back door of Grandaddy Osborne's house. They got married on June 4, 1933. Paducah
I was born about a year and a half later on November 19, 1934. This is a picture of Mother and I taken in 1935 when I was about a year old. At the time, Mother and Daddy lived in an apartment on
17th streetin , and Daddy's sister Elizabeth and her husband Carlos lived in the other side. For a time, Daddy and Carlos jointly ran a Texaco station on Paducah 17th street.
