Milton "Ray" Burnett was born October 20, 1919 in Paducah, McCracken
Co., KY, the 5th child of James Washington and Ora Atwood (Elliott) Burnett.

| Ray standing in front of Jim and Dorothy's home on Merrick in April
1940. Shortly after this photo was taken, the United States entered
World War II and Ray enlisted in the Army where he served as a cook. I
remember some recipes he gave Mom, especially one for a chocolate cake
he raved about, calling for pounds of this and gallons of that. Mom
tried and failed to convert the recipes to normal proportions so she could
try them. Whenever Ray came home on leave he stayed with Elliott and Hazel
or Jim and Dorothy in Detroit. While he was stationed in Iceland he developed
an infection ( they thought) in one of his eyes. He had it removed in England
and then was discharged just before he was to be sent to the Battle of
the Bulge. |

Ray married Edith Grace Beemer, daughter of Lester Ray and Doris Orlinda
(Horton) Beemer, on October 4, 1947 in Concord, Michigan. Edith was
born February 16, 1929 in Jackson, MI and is still living.

| Their first son, Neal Ray Burnett, was born November 22, 1950. Here
is Neal at 3 1/2 months of age. |

tell you how many pictures were taken with people sitting on Mom's piano
bench but it was the favorite spot to take group photos. After she sold
the piano to make room for the TV, the groups moved to the sofa. |

Ray died April 7, 1991 in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
