In January of 1965, Papa went to the hospital for the first time in his life for prostate surgery, and died of post-operative shock on January 14, 1965.  He is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Paducah, KY.
 
 

After Papa died, Mama Burnett moved to Carl and Mary L's house and they took care of her until her death in 1972.  This photo was taken in 1969 at age 85, sitting in a chair on the walk behind Carl and Mary L's house.

Mrs. Burnett, 87, Dies; Rites set. Mrs. Ora Elliott Burnett, 87, Paducah Route 2, Olivet Church Rd.,died at 2:15 P.M. Friday at Paducah Convalescent Center.  Born in Graves County, Mrs. Burnett was the daughter of Addison and Mrs. Nannie Elliott, a pioneer Graves County family. She was the widow of James W. Burnett, who died in 1965. Mrs. Burnett was a member of Massac Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, James Elliott and Milton Ray Burnett, both of Detroit, MI; five daughters, Mrs. Harold Hall, Mrs. Carl Osborne,Mrs. Earl Rust, all of Paducah, and Mrs. James Johns and Mrs. Ruth Egner of Detroit, MI; a brother, Marvin Elliott, Paducah; 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.  Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Lindsey Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cave Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.  Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Obituary - Macomb Daily, 25 March 1998:  Ruth V. Purkey, 76, of Roseville (MI) died Monday, March 23, 1998, in Madison Heights. She was born March 17, 1922 in Paducah, KY. Mrs. Purkey was retired from Chrysler Corp. She was a member of VFW Reid Post, LFA 57, and Praying Hands Club. She is survived by her children Will (Linda) Egner of Trenton, Dean (Brenda) Egner of Covington, GA, and Janet DeWoody of Calif; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister Mary Lawrence Osborne. She was predeceased by her husband Fred; and son Robert Earl Egner. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. Peter Luthern Church, 23000 Gratiot, East Point, with Rev. William Otten and Rev. Paul Wargo officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, East Point.

James E. Burnett , age 82, April 21. Beloved husband of the late Hazel. Dear father of James R. and Mrs. Beverly Gail. Also survived by several brothers and sisters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Burnett was an electrical engineer with the Westinghouse Corporation for many years. His gem and mineral collection is currently being displayed at Cranbrook [Institute in Birmingham, MI]. Memorial services will be held at Westminster Church of Detroit at a time and date to be announced.
